A notable price anomaly occurred in the cryptocurrency market. On the UK-based fintech platform Revolut, the price of Bitcoin briefly dropped to approximately $0.019.

According to screenshots shared by users on the social media platform X, the Bitcoin price appeared to some users today as just a few cents.

The incident at Revolut, which has over 70 million global users, was reported to be very brief, with prices quickly returning to normal levels. Users speculated that the event may have been caused by a display error, a sudden price deviation due to liquidity, or an order book error.

On the other hand, the price data on Revolut’s official website presented a different picture than what X users shared. According to the data on the platform, the Bitcoin price fell below the $39,900 level around 10:15 AM Turkish time on May 8th. However, this drop was quickly reversed.

There has been no official statement so far regarding whether any users have purchased Bitcoin at these unusually low prices.

Coinbase’s (COIN) weak first-quarter earnings report sparked another divide on Wall Street over whether the crypto platform is building a more durable business or remains tied to crypto’s boom-and-bust cycles.

Several analysts lowered forecasts after the company missed expectations on revenue and adjusted EBITDA as trading activity slowed across the crypto market. Still, a number of firms argued Coinbase’s expanding stablecoin and derivatives businesses — along with the possible passage of crypto legislation in Washington — could improve the company’s outlook later this year.

JPMorgan said the quarter reflected “a challenging environment” but added that Coinbase had “positioned the company well to operate in an increasingly digital world.”

The bank said pending U.S. crypto legislation “does set up for a better outlook into 2H26 and into 2027” and maintained an overweight rating on the stock.

The legislation in focus is the CLARITY Act, a proposed market structure bill that would establish rules for how crypto assets are regulated in the U.S. The bill aims to define which digital assets fall under the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and which would be overseen by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Coinbase and other crypto firms have argued clearer rules could encourage banks, asset managers and large companies to expand crypto activity.

Deutsche Bank AG, one of the world’s largest financial institutions, bought more Strategy Inc. stock (MSTR) during the first quarter of 2026. Those extra shares actually left the bank holding less money than before.

The German lender disclosed in a new SEC filing that it held 784,919 shares at the quarter’s end, up from 731,704 at the close of 2025. However, the holding’s value slipped to roughly $98 million from approximately $111 million as the Bitcoin-linked stock retreated over the same stretch.

On May 7, bitcoin reversed course, dipping below $80,000 to effectively erase gains made since Monday. As shown by the daily chart, the top cryptocurrency—which reached a multi-month high of $82,833 some 24 hours earlier—had been under pressure from bears since Wednesday afternoon.

After losing $1,000 during a slow descent from midday to midnight, bitcoin found temporary support at $80,700. While a pre-dawn rally lifted the price to $81,600, the momentum proved unsustainable. The subsequent sell-off was more aggressive, forcing the asset down to a $79,500 intraday low. As of 1 p.m. EDT, bitcoin has reclaimed some ground, currently hovering just below the $80,000 mark.
Bitcoin’s nearly 2% drop dragged its market capitalization below the $1.6 trillion mark, a marked decline from the approximately $1.66 trillion intraday peak reached on Wednesday. The drop helped pull the crypto economy’s market cap to $2.74 trillion, down from just over $2.8 trillion.

The cryptocurrency market’s retreat, which mirrored Wall Street’s, coincided with reports that Iran had rejected the Trump administration’s proposal to end the war. According to a post on X by Walter Bloomberg, a senior Iranian official, Mohsen Rezaei, said Tehran rejected the proposal—which calls on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—because it does not include reparations for war damage
