It is worth noting that the Bitcoin Realized Cap is one of the most important indicators to monitor when assessing the behavior of investors, market sentiment, and most importantly, whether capital is flowing into the market or not.

This indicator is developed by calculating the difference between realized profits and realized losses. In other words, it reflects the value created or destroyed on the Bitcoin market.

Bitcoin’s rally stalled in the $80,000–$82,000 range, where it has largely traded since last Wednesday. While fund flows continue to point toward an eventual breakout, macro risks, particularly inflation, suggest caution.

The U.S. is scheduled to report its consumer price index (CPI) for April at 8:30 a.m. ET. According to FactSet, the median estimate is 3.7%, up from 3.3% in March. If that proves correct, it would mark the largest increase in the CPI since January 2024 and be well above the trailing 12-month average of 2.7%.

Analysts are worried that such a reading, especially against the backdrop of what President Donald Trump described as an “unbelievably weak” U.S.-Iran ceasefire and still-elevated oil prices, could trigger risk aversion, potentially weighing on asset prices.

"Markets are entering a highly sensitive period where geopolitics, inflation risks and central bank expectations are colliding," said Lukman Otunuga, head of market research at global trading broker FXTM. "The combination of elevated oil prices, uncertainty around the Iran conflict, and critical U.S. economic data could drive heightened volatility across commodities, currencies and global equities in the days ahead."

Still, the reaction could also depend on the core CPI print, which excludes the volatile food and energy component. The core reading is forecast to have increased to 2.7% year-on-year from 2.6% in March.

It's also possible that higher inflation is already priced in, which may be why the rally stalled in the first place.

Beyond inflation, another key development is $XRP and Solana’s ($SOL) proximity to major supply zones. $XRP briefly tested $1.50 today, a price where breakouts have repeatedly proved short-lived since February. The same applies to $SOL, which has once again approached resistance near $97.

The crypto market traded defensively on Tuesday, May 12, after hotter U.S. inflation data pushed traders back into a cautious risk setup. Bitcoin held the $80,000 line, but Ethereum weakened below $2,300, altcoins turned mixed-to-red, and crypto-linked equities sold off harder than spot assets.

CoinMarketCap showed the total crypto market cap near $2.68 trillion, with 24-hour volume around $88.03 billion. Bitcoin dominance stood at 60.3%, while Ethereum dominance was at 10.2%, confirming that traders were still favoring BTC over higher-beta crypto exposure.

MARA Holdings (MARA) is still producing bitcoin , but it is getting harder to argue that mining is its core business.

In its first-quarter earnings statement, the company said it does not expect to make large-scale purchases of the specialist ASIC machines used in the process. Historically, big purchases have been the easiest way to read a miner’s growth plans. Less appetite for new machines means less emphasis on expanding pure mining capacity.

Instead, its power strategy is increasingly aimed at AI and high-performance computing. The company wants to place new infrastructure alongside existing mining operations, allowing it to generate bitcoin revenue while keeping the option to redirect power toward AI and critical IT loads as demand matures.

Around 90% of MARA’s non-hosted mining capacity could eventually be used for AI and IT infrastructure, the company said.

First-quarter revenue fell 18% from a year earlier to $174.6 million, the company said Monday. Its net loss widened to $1.3 billion, largely tied to unrealized losses on its 38,689 bitcoin. The largest cryptocurrency fell 17% in the 12-month period.

MARA said it sold $1.5 billion worth of bitcoin during the quarter to improve liquidity and retire debt. That includes a $1.1 billion sale near quarter-end to fund a convertible note repurchase. As a result, MARA dropped two places to become the fourth-largest publicly traded holder of bitcoin, according to Bitcoin Treasuries data cited in the filing notes.

Public miners spent much of the last cycle being valued partly on how much bitcoin they could mine and keep. MARA is now showing a different priority, using bitcoin as balance-sheet ammunition when needed.

Anthropic, the AI company behind Claude, is warning investors that tokenized products claiming to offer access to its private shares may be invalid, escalating a fight over whether restricted pre-IPO stock can be repackaged for retail traders.

In an updated investor-warning page first published in February, Anthropic said any unapproved sale or transfer of its stock, or any interest in its stock, is void and will not be recognized on its books.

"We do not permit special purpose vehicles (SPVs) to acquire Anthropic stock and any transfer of shares to an SPV are void under our transfer restrictions. Offers to invest in Anthropic’s past or future financing rounds through an SPV are prohibited," the company wrote on an updated warning page. "This means that if someone purports to sell Anthropic shares without proper board approval, that transaction is invalid."

It added that any third party claiming to sell Anthropic shares to the general public through direct sales, forward contracts, "tokenized securities," or other mechanisms is likely either engaged in fraud or offering an investment that may have no value due to our transfer restrictions.

Over the past year, several crypto exchanges have set up offerings for pre-IPO exposure to some of the hottest tech companies on the planet, such as Anthropic, SpaceX, and Polymarket. However, not all offerings are the same.

Some are synthetic pre-IPO perpetuals, where no underlying shares are necessarily held, and traders are simply betting on a reference price tied to a private company’s implied valuation. Those instruments may not directly violate a company’s stock-transfer restrictions because no shares move, but they leave users with a derivative claim rather than equity exposure.
