A 46.3 million ounce silver shortfall is keeping pressure on an already tight market



A 46.3 million ounce silver shortfall is keeping pressure on a market that was already tight before 2026 got going, according to the World Silver Survey 2026 released on Wednesday.

Reportedly, global demand stayed above supply for the fifth year in a row in 2025, the deficit smaller than it was in 2024, but it still put more stress on above-ground stocks.

The 88-page report was released by the Silver Institute and researched and produced by Metals Focus, the London-based precious metals consultancy. Its numbers show that total silver demand slipped 2% last year to 1.13 billion ounces, but that top-line figure does not mean the market loosened up.

A strong rise in investment demand helped keep the market under pressure even as some other segments weakened. Coin and net bar demand rose 14%, which nearly canceled out declines elsewhere.

Industrial use lost steam as investors bought more silver and regional demand split sharply

Industrial silver demand fell 3% to 657.4 million ounces in 2025 after four straight years of strong growth. Electrical and electronics demand dropped 2%, but the market still got support from spending tied to AI infrastructure, solid automotive use, and healthy power grid investment.

But solar demand weakened, according to the survey, because strong competition and higher silver raw material costs pushed photovoltaic manufacturers to speed up thrifting and substitution.

Demand for brazing alloys still rose 1%, helped by the auto and aerospace sectors. Other industrial demand fell 7% because the ethylene oxide market slowed.

By region, most of the silver demand losses in 2025 came from East and South Asia, while Europe and North America stayed kind of stable, according to the survey.

Previously, investors’ concerns surrounding the Middle East war deteriorated investor demand for risk assets, including XRP, which had fallen nearly 25% since the war began.  Demand for the token across leveraged markets has also cooled significantly. Data from CoinGlass shows that the total open interest for XRP futures stood at $2.48 billion at press time, significantly lower than over $9 billion seen in early October. Such a sharp decline in open interest suggests that speculative excess has been washed out, potentially leaving a cleaner path for a recovery. The current Dogecoin performance trend has highlighted the appearance of a rather interesting behavioral pattern. This has to do with the zig-zag movement of the meme coin through the last few months, and depending on the direction of the next move, it could determine how the Dogecoin price could play out. Given this, a crypto analyst has given three different scenarios that could end up playing out for the digital asset soon.

Dogecoin Price Displays Kumo Cloud Behavior
Crypto analyst Trader Tardigarde pointed out a rather ineresting formation on the Dogecoin price chart using the 4-Hour chart. According to the analysis, the current Dogecoin up and down movement suggests the appearance of a Thin Cloud Behavior.

As Trader Tardigrade explains, the Dogecoin price movements through this thin cloud suggests that the meme coin is not seeing a lot of movement. This means that there is nothing that is currently blocking the price from moving. But the interesting part of this is that the price is not blocked in either direction. Thus, Dogecoin could push in any direction from here.

As a result, there are three scenarios that could play out for the cryptocurrency at this point. The first of these is the bearish one that could lead to a sustained downtrend. The Thin Cloud current lies between $0.092 and just below $0.093. If the price breaks below the bottom, then it could trigger a breakdown.

This breakdown would lead to the cloud actually thickening, eliminating the thin cloud currently being seen. Additionally, it would push the price further down, possibly breaking below the $0.09 level once again. However, there is still the possibility of a bullish scenario.

The second scenario highlighted by Trader Tardigrade is the the breakout, when the Dogecoin price successfully surges above the thin cloud. Such a move would put it in the breakout zone above $0.094, pushing the cloud from red to green. This would then be the first step before an even bigger move.

BitMine Chairman Tom Lee, who is particularly optimistic about Ethereum ($ETH), has made new statements.

According to Tom Lee, the cryptocurrency bear market, which has been ongoing since the second half of last year, has entered its final phase.

Speaking at Paris Blockchain Week 2026 in Paris, Tom Lee said that the weakness in the crypto markets is coming to an end.

Lee, who described the decline as a “mini crypto winter,” noted that stock markets had already hit their bottoms after the Iran-Iraq conflict. He stated that this situation would also have a positive impact on the cryptocurrency market.

Lee, who has attracted attention with his support for Ethereum, argued that $ETH is poised for an upward trend.

According to Lee, tokenization and the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence will increase demand for the Ethereum network and trigger a major bull run.

In this context, he argued that the price of Ethereum could rise above $60,000 in the coming years, and that even $62,000 could be a fair value.

He added that this prediction is based on the assumption that Ethereum will reach approximately one-quarter of Bitcoin’s value in the long term.

Tom Lee stated that he has high expectations for Ethereum’s growth, while BitMine recently reported a net loss of $3.82 billion to the SEC for the first quarter. Approximately $3.78 billion of this loss stemmed from a decline in the value of $ETH assets.

Cryptocurrency analytics company Santiment has revealed the most active Layer-2 networks based on developer activity, using GitHub data from the past 30 days.

The data reveals that competition continues unabated, particularly among Ethereum scaling solutions, with Starknet and Aztec maintaining their top positions.

According to Santiment data, developer activity metrics reflect the technical progress of projects on GitHub and ecosystem growth, with leadership in this area considered a critical indicator of long-term fundamental strength.

Starknet ($STRK) maintained its top position with 117 points of developer activity, while the privacy-focused Layer-2 solution Aztec ($AZTEC) came in second with 116.27 points. Arbitrum ($ARB) retained its third-place position with 73.37 points.

On the other hand, Optimism (OP) rose to fourth place compared to last month, while zkSync (ZK) dropped in the rankings to fifth place.
