The meme coin space has not been shy of hype, but the trend in 2025 has been moving away from viral marketing towards practicality. Although Ethereum-based meme coins like Shiba Inu (SHIB), Pepe (PEPE), and Floki (FLOKI) have remained at the forefront of the conversation.

A new player, Little Pepe ($LILPEPE), which is a Layer 2 meme coin designed for utility purposes, is quickly making a name for itself-and the numbers are beginning to show that it's worth paying attention to.

Little Pepe has already raised $28,101,728 out of the $28,775,000 goal, selling 16.94 billion tokens out of 17.25 billion. Currently in Stage 13, each token costs $0.0022, with plans for an increase to $0.0023 in the next stage.

Ethereum Meme Coins: Strong Brands, Limited Evolution

Various popular meme coins have emerged from the Ethereum platform. For example, Shiba Inu (SHIB) ventured out of its meme coin status by launching Shibarium, its Layer 2 product. PEPE leveraged internet culture to post outstanding returns in the short run, while FLOKI created an ecosystem centred on NFTs and metaverse aspirations.

Joe Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and CEO of Consensys, told CoinDesk that artificial intelligence and crypto are increasingly converging to power what he calls a machine-driven economy.
He explained that autonomous and semi-autonomous AI agents may soon be able to transact, coordinate, and verify each other directly on decentralized networks, using crypto infrastructure as the settlement layer for machine-to-machine activity.
Lubin also highlighted Ethereum’s ongoing evolution through key tools and ecosystems such as MetaMask, stablecoins, and tokenization, which he sees as foundational components of this emerging digital economy.
At the same time, he warned that centralized control of AI systems could introduce significant risks, reinforcing the importance of decentralization in future AI development.
Regarding broader tech risks, Lubin downplayed concerns around quantum computing, describing it as a long-term challenge that is likely manageable rather than an immediate threat.

Stablecoins can help businesses turn costs into revenue, Paxos Labs cofounder says

Stablecoins, the $300 billion class of digital dollars, may have started as a faster way to move money across the globe, but companies are now asking a different question: what can they actually do with them?

That shift is driving a new phase of adoption, according to Chunda McCain, co-founder of Paxos Labs, who says the industry is moving beyond basic infrastructure toward real business use cases.

"The first step was getting a stablecoin," McCain said in an interview with CoinDesk. "The next question is: what now?"

Last week, Paxos Labs underscored that direction by raising $12 million in a strategic funding round led by Blockchain Capital, with participation from Robot Ventures, Maelstrom and Uniswap. The lab unit was incubated under Paxos, the New York-based digital asset firm behind popular stablecoins such as PayPal's $PYUSD ($PYUSD) and the Global Dollar (USDG). Paxos itself builds stablecoins and the immediate underlying infrastructure, while Paxos Labs intends to build tooling for further use of those stablecoins.

With the fresh funds, Paxos Labs is building what it calls a "financial utility stack" that lets companies turn digital assets into products through a single integration.

Its newly launched Amplify Suite bundles three core tools: Earn, which offers yield on digital assets; Borrow, which enables lending against them; and Mint, which supports branded stablecoin issuance. The idea behind that is to let firms integrate tokens into a business, then layer on capabilities over time.

The current market setup is approaching an inflection point where bulls will need to step up.

From a technical perspective, Bitcoin’s [BTC] 2.57% rally on the 17th of April pushed the price back above $76k, with the upper wick reaching $78k, a level BTC hasn’t tested in over 70 days.

Now trading roughly 4% below the $80k mark, on-chain pressure is starting to build.

As shown in the chart below, BTC perfectly bounced from the realized price of the 18m-2y long-term holder (LTH) cohort near $62k.

In fact, price has now moved above the cost basis of the 1m–3m short-term holder (STH) cohort around $75,620. However, this remains a key zone where supply typically increases
