The Strait of Hormuz has been fully reopened to commercial shipping during the ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, with ships required to follow a designated route established by Iranian authorities, said Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in a Friday statement.

Bitcoin inched higher toward $77,000 on the news after trading earlier in the $74,600-$75,746 range, while oil prices tumbled. Crude dropped 11.5% to near $84 and Brent declined more than 10% to around $89.

President Donald Trump responded by thanking Iran for the move.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil transportation, witnessed a full closure in early March 2026 as tensions escalated between the US and Iran following military actions initiated by the US. The crisis led to the longest period of oil supply disruptions since the 1973 oil embargo, with prices exceeding record highs and severe impacts on global markets.

Morgan Stanley's Amy Oldenburg says crypto 'becoming daily business' across the firm Bridging traditional finance systems with blockchain rails remains one of the biggest operational challenges for large banks.

Morgan Stanley's digital asset chief said demand is split between direct crypto exposure and ETFs, forcing banks to build for both.

Morgan Stanley's foray into crypto products and services is moving from the fringes into core operations, according to Amy Oldenburg, the bank's head of digital asset strategy.

"There's an inflection point here," Oldenburg said this week in an interview with GSR. "This is starting to become ... part of the daily business operations."

Oldenburg, who took on the new role in February, oversees digital asset strategy and execution across Morgan Stanley's institutional wealth and asset management divisions. Her approach looks to integrate crypto and tokenization into the firm's existing infrastructure rather than treat them as standalone offerings.

According to experts, Sui’s South Korea-focused expansion strategy could accelerate and pave the way for new partnerships depending on regulatory developments in the region.

Ethereum Network Transaction Volume Reaches Highest Level Since 2023! Here Are the Details



The Ethereum mainnet reached its highest ever quarterly transaction volume in the first quarter of 2026, processing a total of 200.4 million transactions.

This figure represents more than double the increase seen in 2023, when the figure was around 90 million, indicating that the network is experiencing a strong “U-shaped recovery”.

However, the divergence between the network’s fundamental data and price performance is noteworthy. Ethereum’s price has fallen by more than 50% compared to its peak of around $5,000 in August 2025, and is currently trading around $2,330.

According to experts, the main driving force behind the increase in transaction volume has been the rise in Layer 2 solutions and stablecoin usage. Specifically, the Base and Arbitrum networks have increased user engagement thanks to lower transaction fees, and this activity is reflected back to the Ethereum mainnet through bridging and consensus processes.

On the other hand, Token Terminal data shows that the stablecoin supply on Ethereum has reached a record high of $180 billion, accounting for approximately 60% of the global market.

Analysts note that the Dencun update significantly reduced Layer-2 data costs, but this hasn’t been reflected to the same extent in metrics like transaction fees and token burning.

France's finance minister calls for more euro stablecoins in sign of government policy shift


Europe needs more euro-issued stablecoins and banks across the European Union (EU) countries must explore tokenized deposits, French Finance Minister Roland Lescure said Friday, according to Reuters.

The statements signal a potential shift in stance within the French government and its central bank.

Lescure expressed support for Qivalis, a group of 12 European banks, including BBVA, ING, UniCredit and BNP Paribas, that are set to launch a euro-pegged stablecoin ‌in ⁠the second half of 2026, in a move they hope will counter U.S. dominance in digital payments.

"That is what we need and that is what we want." Lescure said. "I also strongly encourage banks to further explore the launch of tokenised deposits."

He also said that the relatively small volume of euro-pegged stablecoins compared to dollar-pegged ones was "not satisfactory".

Former Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire spearheaded a strict regulatory stance against privately-issued fiat-pegged cryptocurrencies, saying they “had no place on European soil” and were a threat to “the sovereignty of nations.” And in 2023, La Maire was linked to a EU document revealing the European Commission’s plan to halt stablecoins from becoming widely used in place of fiat currency.

More recently, during a live confrontation with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong over stablecoins and yields, Bank of France Governor Francois Villeroy de Galhau warned that stablecoins and tokenized private money could accelerate what he framed as a political threat. “The first threat is privatization of money, and loss of monetary sovereignty,” he added.
