Blockchain payment giant Ripple issued a new report focusing on the growth and adoption of digital assets across Africa, driven by key regulatory changes that the firm says have prompted it to offer crypto solutions to “power Africa’s expanding digital economy.”

The study finds that roughly eight African nations have already adopted crypto-specific rules, with several more moving toward formal frameworks.

South Africa’s Policy Advances
Ripple highlights a nascent regional coordination: clearer regimes in major markets are beginning to serve as templates for neighboring countries, and cross-border fintech initiatives are fostering “a more harmonized ecosystem.”

That regulatory momentum, the report argues, is underpinning concrete growth in on-chain activity and practical uses for digital assets across the continent.

The company reviews several national developments in detail. South Africa, Ripple notes, adopted a comprehensive framework in June 2023 that treats certain crypto assets as financial products.

Under the new rules, Crypto Asset Service Providers (CASPs) in the country must be licensed and answer to both the Financial Sector Conduct Authority and the Financial Intelligence Centre.

Johannesburg has also implemented the Financial Action Task Force’s Travel Rule and is continuing to explore policy for stablecoins and tokenization through its Intergovernmental Fintech Working Group.

Clearer Crypto Oversight
Kenya, the report says, has moved rapidly from proposals to law. A draft Virtual Asset Service Providers Bill introduced by the National Treasury in March 2025 became law in October 2025, transferring supervisory responsibility to the Central Bank of Kenya and the Capital Markets Authority.

The country is conducting nationwide consultations on implementing regulations, and Ripple expects Kenya’s framework to be influential for the region in 2026 as it builds out its digital asset infrastructur

However, the rally developed through sharp upward pushes rather than steady progression, showing that price reacted strongly to bursts of demand. This behavior placed greater pressure on price near resistance, where reactions typically intensify as opposing interests begin to emerge.

As the move progressed, the ZRO price started responding more quickly to nearby levels, reflecting a shift toward shorter-term positioning rather than sustained accumulation.

ZRO sellers respond before resistance fully breaks
As the rally extended, ZRO moved toward a critical resistance zone between $2.11 and $2.31. Price held support at $1.77, which acted as a strong base throughout the move.

However, price faced rejection around the $2.05–$2.11 region before reaching the upper boundary. This early reaction showed that sellers had already started defending higher levels. As a result, the structure reflected compression rather than continuation, with price tightening below resistance.

Such a setup increases pressure on both sides, since buyers require stronger follow-through, while sellers attempt to maintain control near the supply zone.

At press time, the MACD line approached the signal line but did not cross, while price held above recent higher lows, showing reduced bearish pressure. In turn, the Parabolic SAR flipped below the price, aligning with the short-term directional change after the rebound.

However, these signals remained transitional, since price continued trading below a key resistance zone.

Bitcoin's next big move may have less to do with crypto fundamentals and more to do with the direction of oil prices.

The leading cryptocurrency by market value has rebounded to $70,900 from early-week lows near $67,000, tracking a broader risk-on move after the U.S. and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire late Tuesday that sent oil prices tumbling roughly 15% to below $100 a barrel.

Bitcoin has been here before – prices have climbed above the $70,000 mark several times in recent weeks, only for the rallies to fizzle out quickly, underscoring the lack of sustained upside momentum.

Will it be different this time? It largely depends on whether oil price weakness sustains, according to analysts at crypto exchange Bitfinex.

"A 15–16 percent collapse in crude, if sustained, materially brings forward the potential cut window. Futures markets will likely reprice additional rate-cut probability for late 2026, which is a structural tailwind for non-yielding risk assets, including bitcoin," analysts said in a market update.

A sustained decline in oil prices could ripple through the global economy, partially unwinding the inflationary shock triggered by the March surge and giving the Federal Reserve and other major central banks greater room to cut rates later this year.

Should that happen, bitcoin could rally to $80,000, with gains driven by the unwinding of short positions.

"Bitcoin is sitting at $72,000, pressing into a massive cluster of short liquidity. Derivatives heatmaps show roughly $6 billion in leveraged shorts concentrated between $72,200 and $73,500, with peak density around $72,500. If spot demand can force the price through that zone, the resulting liquidation cascade would likely catapult Bitcoin through the supply gap toward $80,000," Adam Saville Brown, head of commercial at Tesseract Group, said in an email.
