Tether blacklisted 371 addresses, freezing ~$515M in USDT on Ethereum and Tron over 30 days ending May 7.

Of the 371 freeze actions, 329 occurred on the Tron network and 42 on Ethereum.

The crackdown has once again showcased Tether’s growing compliance role as the world’s largest stablecoin issuer.

According to data from Blocksec’s USDT Freeze Tracker, Tether blacklisted 371 addresses on Ethereum and Tron combined. Of those, 329 freeze actions were executed on the Tron network, while 42 occurred on Ethereum, a distribution that reflects USDT’s disproportionately heavy usage on Tron, which has become the dominant chain for stablecoin transactions in emerging markets, particularly across Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa.Tether’s ability to freeze funds stems from a centralized administrative key embedded in the USDT smart contract. When an address is flagged, typically at the request of law enforcement agencies or following verified evidence of theft, fraud, or sanctions violations, Tether can unilaterally prevent that wallet from moving its funds. The mechanism has been used in cooperation with agencies including the U.S. Department of Justice and Europol.This centralized freeze capability has become a double-edged sword as critics have argued that it fundamentally contradicts the self-custody ethos of crypto, where users are supposed to have full sovereignty over their own assets. Tether and its supporters frame it as an essential tool against money laundering, ransomware payouts, and large-scale financial crime.

The scale of May’s freeze activity is notable as the freezing of over half a billion dollars in a single month suggests either a surge in enforcement requests or a broadened internal compliance sweep, or both. The data by Blocksec does not specify how many of the 371 addresses were frozen at direct government

Experienced Expert Reveals Which Theory He Believes Regarding the Identity of Bitcoin Founder Satoshi Nakamoto – “BTCs Died Along With Their Founder”

A new theory has emerged regarding Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious founder of Bitcoin.

Cryptocurrency commentator Fred Krueger, in his assessment, argued that Satoshi Nakamoto may not be a single person, but rather a partnership consisting of Hal Finney and Len Sassaman. Krueger suggested that this is the “most plausible scenario” among the current theories.

According to Krueger, one of the theory’s main supports was the physical inconsistencies in the timeline. He noted that while Satoshi Nakamoto was communicating with developer Mike Hearn via email in 2009, Hal Finney was known to be running a marathon, making it difficult for Finney to be Satoshi alone. Krueger argues that this strengthens the possibility of a second person managing the “Satoshi desk.”

The second pillar of the theory is based on technical expertise. Krueger stated that Hal Finney was a highly skilled C++ developer capable of developing Bitcoin’s infrastructure, but early doubts about Hashcash suggested that the cryptographic vision in the Bitcoin whitepaper might have come from someone else. Len Sassaman’s status as a top-tier cryptography expert is noteworthy in this context.

Language use was also cited as a supporting element for the theory. Noting that Len Sassaman lived in Belgium, Krueger argued that the use of British English expressions like “favour” and “colour” in Satoshi Nakamoto’s writings was closer to Sassaman’s language style. This, it was suggested, could explain details that don’t align with Hal Finney’s American English style.

Fairshake to back 5 candidates in midterm elections

Fairshake, a major cryptocurrency industry Super PAC, raised over $160 million to influence the 2024 U.S. elections by supporting pro-crypto candidates, regardless of party.

As per latest reports, Fairshake’s crypto-backed political action committees (PACs) are targeting five states to cement their influence. More than $7.2 million has been donated in support of these candidates.

This capital will fund campaigns in the media space, including radio, television, and digital ads. The two Fairshake-affiliated PACs are targeting Georgia, Alabama, Nebraska, Kentucky, and Texas.

This support comes amid a growing divide between lawmakers who support blockchain and crypto innovation and those pushing for tighter regulation. A win in these states would increase the number of lawmakers supporting crypto and other digital assets.
