Crypto analyst Benjamin Cowen is cautioning that Bitcoin could still be at risk of setting a new cycle low later this year, pointing to historical patterns from previous bear markets.In a recent YouTube update, Cowen examines the time gaps between major lows in past cycles, suggesting the current market may not yet be out of danger. "In 2014, Bitcoin set a low in April and the next low wasn't until October," Cowen says, noting that the gap between those lows was about 174 days. S&P 500 call options volume surges to record $2.6 trillion. Here's what it means for bitcoin

The U.S. stock market is heating up in a way that suggests speculative mania. It matters to bitcoin as analysts have linked the cryptocurrency's recent rally to increased risk-taking on Wall Street.

The overheating signals come from options tied to the S&P 500. These are derivative contracts that let traders bet on or hedge against moves in the index. A call option is a bet that the index will rise above a certain price within a set time. A put option does the opposite, offering protection from declines in the index.

On Wednesday, U.S. equity derivative exchanges registered a notional volume of $2.6 trillion in S&P 500 call options, according to data tracked by Zero Hedge. That amounted to 60% of total S&P 500 options activity. To put it into context, the notional amount nearly matched the total crypto market valuation of $2.73 trillion, which represents the combined capitalization of thousands of cryptocurrencies, with bitcoin leading the way.

In essence, the majority of market participants were positioned for upside through calls or bullish exposure.

On the surface, the implication for bitcoin is straightforward: it is bullish. A speculative surge in the S&P 500 could spill over into crypto, driving valuations higher. After all, double-digit gains in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq since early April played a big role in lifting bitcoin to $80,000 from under $70,000 a few weeks ago.

Ethereum, XRP, and Dogecoin were the biggest losers. Meanwhile, delays around the CLARITY Act and South Korea’s stricter crypto transfer law kept regulatory pressure high.

Crypto prices today show a mix of geopolitical shocks, ETF outflows, and the weight of regulatory uncertainty on investor sentiment. Bitcoin, which was holding strong over $80,000 in the last few days, has dipped to the levels of $79,000. 

Most top coins have followed suit, posting losses of 1% to 4%. The only exceptions to this downtrend among the world’s ten largest tokens are Solana and TRON. The global market cap is down 0.73% at $2.66 trillion at press time. Fresh US-Iran clashes at the Strait of Hormuz have sent oil prices past $100 a barrel, adding a new layer of risk.

Benchmark Equity Research reiterated its "buy" rating and $27 price target on Bitdeer Technologies, citing the stock's re-rating potential as a bitcoin miner transitioning into AI/HPC infrastructure.

Bitdeer shares (BTDR) surged nearly 21% Wednesday following Hut 8's (HUT) announcement of a massive 352 MW AI data center deal at Beacon Point, highlighting investor enthusiasm for hybrid bitcoin mining/AI firms, the analysts led by Mark Palmer said in a note on Thursday.

With that in mind, BTDR trades at a "comparatively inexpensive" 4.5x forward EV/revenue despite possessing similar power access, vertical integration, and proprietary chip development capabilities.

Bitdeer’s AI cloud ARR hit $43 million as of end-March, a 105% jump month-over-month, and management expressed strong demand from AI agents and enterprise workloads, Benchmark said.

"In the burgeoning subsector of hybrid bitcoin mining/AI-HPC stocks, in which many of the most visible names have already 'mooned' on AI enthusiasm, BTDR remains comparatively inexpensive despite possessing some of the same foundational elements that investors are now aggressively rewarding elsewhere: large-scale power access, vertically integrated infrastructure, and increasingly sophisticated proprietary chip development capabilities," Benchmark wrote.

Notably, BTDR continues to advance its proprietary SEALMINER A4 mining chip roadmap, with a 69.5 EH/s self-mining hashrate in March.

"The company’s vertical integration strategy reduces its dependence on third-party ASIC suppliers while allowing it to internalize hardware economics historically captured elsewhere in the mining ecosystem," Benchmark noted.

Bitdeer produced 661 BTC in March and boasts a total hashrate under management of ~78 EH/s. The Block previously reported that this figure makes Bitdeer the largest miner by total compute, ahead of

Lee stated that if Bitcoin ($BTC) reaches the $250,000 level, which he sees as its fair long-term value, Ethereum could experience a significant revaluation relative to its historical $ETH/$BTC ratio.

Lee also displayed a chart on the screen showing that in an “Ethereum payment rails” scenario, the price could rise to $62,500.

The analyst argued that Ethereum generally lags behind Bitcoin in cycles, but quickly recovers with a self-reinforcing movement in the later stages of the cycle. “The crypto winter is over,” said Lee, adding, “If the crypto spring also ends, we could see strong movements by the end of this year.”
