Bitcoin stalls below $76,000 as sell wall caps rally despite rising derivatives activity

Bitcoin is testing $76,000 for a third day, trading at $75,440 as bullish traders continue to chip away at $450 million of sell orders between $75,900 and $76,300, CoinGlass data shows.

The orders will be placed by traders who are either attempting to short the range-high in expectation of a reversion to around $68,000, and those defending against a breakout with liquidation risk above.

U.S. equities surged to record highs on Thursday as the war in Iran appears to be winding down following a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

The crypto market outperformed equities since the start of the war, and is now taking a back seat.

Derivatives positioning

Activity in the crypto futures market has picked up, with bitcoin briefly topping $76,000 during European trading hours. Total market volume has risen 28% to $225.8 billion, while open interest (OI) has edged up over 1.5% to $126.68 billion.

More notably, total liquidations have surged 140% to $529 million, with short positions slightly exceeding longs, suggesting a mild short squeeze and building of upward pressure in the market.

Solana's $SOL is leading the growth in OI among the biggest cryptocurrencies. In 24 hours, the number of active contracts in Solana futures has increased by 11% to 5.53 billion $SOL, the most since March 18. Dogecoin is another standout, with OI hovering at the six-month high of 14.17 billion DOGE.

$SOL’s capital inflows appear to be driven by rising appetite for bullish positioning, with the positive funding rates and 24-hour OI-adjusted cumulative volume delta (CVD) signaling increasingly aggressive buying pressure.

Signals for dogecoin remain mixed, as a positive CVD points to buying pressure, while slightly negative funding rates suggest lingering bearish sentiment among derivatives traders.

​Over the past week, Centrifuge [CFG] has emerged as one of the hottest issuers of Real-World Assets (RWA). CFG recorded a massive 32% double-digit gain in the last 24 hours—marking its third consecutive day of such growth—making it a top performer among the top 300 cryptocurrencies by market cap.
​Price Action: Breakout and Potential Correction
On the 4-hour chart, CFG broke out of an ascending triangle consolidation pattern, surging to $0.26. However, sellers quickly responded, pulling the price back to $0.2267.
​The Retracement: Following such a breakout, a healthy correction is typical. Prices may drop toward the 0.5 Fibonacci level or the "Optimal Trade Entry" zone between 0.618 and 0.786 Fibonacci levels.
​Next Target: If CFG successfully breaks above $0.26, the next major target is $0.35, as there is very little overhead resistance on higher timeframes.
​On-Chain Metrics and Trend Strength
​Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD): The CVD suggests the daily high may have been reached, with over 514k CFG sold recently, following a peak net buy volume of 4.86 million tokens.
​Trend Strength Index (TSI): Despite the pullback, the TSI stands at 0.83, indicating that the bullish trend strength remains in the 80th percentile.

Centrifuge’s network activity is hitting monthly highs, with asset senders and holders reaching new peaks.

Analyst Issues Bullish Warning for Bitcoin (BTC)! “Expect This Level Within One or Two Months!”
The leading cryptocurrency, Bitcoin ($BTC), is trading around $74,600 after a strong week.

Analysts say the rally has stalled ahead of the expiration of the two-week ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran next week.

However, one analyst predicts that Bitcoin could rise to $125,000 in the coming months.

Speaking to Coindesk, ZeroStack CEO Daniel Reis-Faria stated that perpetual interest rates on Bitcoin are extremely negative, which could trigger a significant price increase.

Noting that Bitcoin’s perpetual term funding rates are quite negative, the analyst said, “this indicates that investors are heavily shorting, expecting a decline.”

According to the analyst, this increases the likelihood of a sharp short squeeze that could push the Bitcoin price towards $125,000 in the coming months.

At this point, Faria believes Bitcoin could reach $125,000 within the next one to two months. Faria bases this prediction on the funding rate of $BTC perpetual futures, which has fallen to its lowest level since 2023.

According to the analyst, if the Bitcoin price continues to rise, this could lead to a mass forced liquidation of short positions, causing a short position squeeze that would accelerate the price rally.

Back in the black: Strategy’s returns to profit on bitcoin holdings after $76,000 surg

Bitcoin has decisively broken above $76,300 for the first time since its sharp selloff on Feb. 5, when it dropped to a low near $60,000.

BTC has rallied more than 25% and now trades above its 100-day moving average (100DMA) of $74,774 since bottoming in early February. The previous two tests of this level resulted in rejections and further downside, adding weight to the current move higher.

Bitcoin briefly traded as high as $76,700 on Feb. 4 before continuing lower. A later recovery attempt on March 17 also stalled at $76,013, making the current breakout above $76,300 more notable.



The breakout also carries positive implications for Strategy (MSTR), the largest publicly traded holder of bitcoin. The company is now back in profit on its bitcoin holdings, with an average purchase price of $75,577.

MSTR is also trading above its 200-week moving average, a long term trend indicator that smooths price data over roughly four years and currently stands at $157.53, over 6% higher on the day shortly after the market opened.

Meanwhile, broader equity markets have been on a strong run. The Nasdaq 100 has risen for twelve consecutive trading sessions, from March 31 through April 16, pushing both the Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 to new all time highs.
