Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin responded to growing criticisms of the Ethereum Foundation’s role in the Ethereum ecosystem, pushing back against critics who want the organization to take a more active role in supporting token prices and marketing.

Buterin said the Foundation will continue to focus on promoting censorship-resistance, open source software code, long-range research, cybersecurity, and decentralization of the Ethereum Protocol, as outlined in its mandate. He said:

“EF is not a ‘center of Ethereum’, rather EF is ‘one node, with a defined purpose, alongside other nodes’. We have always said that the EF should be the latter, but many in the Ethereum ecosystem, and even within the EF, wanted us to be the former.

“Now, we are taking action to ensure that we will be the latter,” he continued, adding that the Ethereum Foundation seeks to strengthen Ethereum’s cybersecurity and code base but not necessarily compete with high-throughput chains or scale to 1 million transactions per second.

The comments follow several large $ETH holders selling their entire $ETH position and high-profile departures from the Ethereum Foundation, as the current price of the cryptocurrency, about $2,094, sits more than 50% below its all-time high of nearly $5,000 reached in August 2025.

“The EF has only about 0.16% of all $ETH,” he said, noting that it is common for other foundations to hold 10-50% of their native tokens.
“I think Ethereum’s original sin was not considering tokenomics with every move it made from Dencun on,” cryptocurrency journalist Laura Shin said.

The Dencun upgrade was a major protocol update released in March 2024, which significantly reduced network fees for layer-2 transactions and led to a subsequent collapse in Ethereum’s base layer revenue.Most investors “don’t want to believe in something that is not

Even with Solana falling 33% in Q1 2026 to roughly $83, Messari’s latest “State of Solana” report paints a much more nuanced picture than the price action alone suggests.
Most dollar-based metrics declined during the quarter, largely because of the broader market downturn. But under the surface, the network continued to expand in ways that are difficult to ignore.
The standout statistic was transaction activity. Solana reached a new all-time high of 112.6 million average daily non-vote transactions in Q1 — up 50% from the previous quarter and 15% higher than the prior record set in Q2 2025. In practical terms, more transactions were processed on Solana each day than at any other point in the network’s history, despite the sharp drop in SOL’s market price.
At the same time, the network’s real-world asset (RWA) sector continued growing, surpassing $2 billion in market capitalization. Validator revenue also remained surprisingly stable, showing that network participation and infrastructure economics held up even during weaker market conditions.
Messari’s “Chain GDP” metric — which tracks total application revenue generated across the ecosystem — was nearly unchanged at $342.2 million, compared with $341.8 million in Q4 2025. That stability suggests users continued spending and interacting with applications even as speculative sentiment cooled.
Among Solana-based apps, Pump.fun remained the dominant revenue generator, bringing in $124.7 million during the quarter, a 17% increase quarter-over-quarter. Axiom followed with $42.4 million in revenue, climbing 36% from the previous quarter.
The biggest breakout story, however, was Bags, a launchpad that allows users to share trading fees with social-media-linked accounts. Bags posted explosive 1,347% revenue growth to $11.5 million in January, fueled by a surge of interest in meme coins connected to open-source AI projects.
