At the current stage of the cycle, timing matters more than ever. From a technical view, traders have wiped $10 billion+ from the market this week, dragging Bitcoin closer to $70k.

According to data from on-chain analytics firm Santiment, the Ethereum investors owning at least 100,000 $ETH have been accumulating recently. At the current exchange rate, this 100,000 $ETH cutoff converts to nearly $200 million, so the only holders that would qualify for the cohort would be the big-money ones.
In fact, the sums held by members of this group are so significant that they would be classified as large even among the whales, the popular cohort for classifying influential investors.

Early signals show XRP outpacing Ethereum in Q2 – Can it happen?
Despite Q1 FUD, 2026 stays fundamentals-driven, continuing the 2025 development-led cycle.

In context, the 2025 cycle diverged from the typical post-halving structure, with a stronger emphasis on development activity and protocol upgrades aimed at improving chain efficiency for the ongoing Web3 transition. 2026 so far appears to be following the same trajectory.

According to Messari’s recent report, XRP’s Q1 performance reflects this momentum in real time.

As the chart below shows, XRPL utility continued to expand alongside ongoing development, particularly around institutional use cases such as RWAs and stablecoins, driving a 124% upside in the RWA market.
Notably, other ecosystem metrics also showed similar strength.

However, the key point is Ripple’s [XRP] price impact, which, despite closing the quarter down 27% amid broader risk-off conditions, showed relative strength in cross-asset terms.

The XRP/ETH ratio ended the quarter up 4.25%, marking XRP’s first outperformance vs. Ethereum [ETH] since Q1 2025.

As the largest altcoin with exposure across stablecoins and TVL, this strength stands out, especially as the market narrative shifts further toward “utility,” making XRP/ETH momentum into Q2 worth watching.

CryptoQuant Says Bitcoin Could Remain in Bear Market for Another Year as Whale Purchases Stall
Bitcoin (BTC) traded relatively flat on Saturday, after a brief stabilization following a sharp downturn earlier in the week.
Notably, on Thursday, Bitcoin slipped to around $72,642, marking its lowest level since mid-April. The drop came as markets reacted to reports of renewed geopolitical tensions following U.S. military strikes on Iranian facilities. While prices have since recovered modestly, Bitcoin continues to hover near $73,000, still roughly 11% below its recent peak of $83,000.
However, analysts caution that the current consolidation may not reflect real stability. According to Ki Young Ju, founder of CryptoQuant, the broader market structure still resembles a bearish phase. On-chain indicators continue to point to weakening demand and prolonged distribution, suggesting the market could remain under pressure for an extended period.
 “Once profit-taking cascades, Bitcoin investors’ PnL typically falls for about 18 months… Since the trend turned in Oct 2025, the bear market could last until early 2027.” He tweeted on Friday.
He added that a true trend reversal would require a return of sustained unrealized profits and renewed accumulation, conditions that have yet to materialize.

Notably, CryptoQuant data also shows that whale activity, or wallets holding between 1,000 and 10,000 BTC, has been declining at one of the fastest rates this year. The pattern mirrors previous bear market phases, particularly 2022, when large holders shifted from accumulation to distribution as market momentum faded.

Moreover, smaller institutional-like holders, often referred to as “dolphins” (100–1,000 BTC), have also seen a sharp slowdown in growth.
