The market for bitcoin-backed credit could undergo a major scale change in the coming years. An Ethereum whale has opened a massive $100 million short position while market sentiment around ETH remains uncertain. The move gained attention shortly after Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated that he plans to reduce the amount of ETH he sells in the future, a comment many investors interpreted as a signal of stronger long-term confidence in Ethereum.

According to blockchain tracking data, the whale entered the leveraged short position near a major resistance zone, suggesting expectations of short-term downside volatility. Large short positions from institutional traders or whales often increase market tension because they can trigger aggressive liquidations if the market suddenly moves against them. Traders are now closely watching whether Ethereum can hold key support levels or force a short squeeze against bearish positions.

At the same time, Vitalik Buterin’s comments regarding ETH sales have sparked renewed discussions inside the crypto community. Over the years, some investors criticized periodic ETH sales from Ethereum Foundation-linked wallets, arguing that they created additional market pressure. Buterin’s latest statement is being viewed by many as an attempt to reassure long-term holders and strengthen confidence in Ethereum’s ecosystem and future development.

Technically, Ethereum remains trapped between strong support and resistance zones as volatility continues building. Analysts believe a decisive breakout above resistance could trigger rapid upside momentum and force heavily leveraged short positions to close. On the other hand, failure to maintain support may increase selling pressure and strengthen the bearish outlook in the short term.
