HYPE hit $64.23 on May 24 as crypto.news data showed strong weekly and monthly gains.
Hyperliquid's native token HYPE has extended its record rally as new analysis points to the protocol's built-in buyback system as a main driver behind the move, rather than ETF demand alone.
Forbes contributor Zennon Kapron argued that HYPE's latest run is tied closely to Hyperliquid's Assistance Fund, a protocol mechanism that uses trading fee revenue to buy HYPE in the open market. His report said Hyperliquid has used more than $1.16 billion in fee revenue for token purchases since launch.
The model differs from a normal company buyback. Hyperliquid does not run the process through a board vote or quarterly approval. The protocol routes revenue into the Assistance Fund, which then buys HYPE as part of its token model.

DefiLlama data supports that structure. Its Hyperliquid page states that 99% of fees from Hyperliquid Perps and the spot order book go to the Assistance Fund for buying HYPE, excluding some builder and unit protocol fees.
That creates a steady demand channel as long as trading remains active. When the exchange produces more fees, the buyback pool grows. When trading slows, the same support can shrink.
HYPE hits new highs
Crypto.news price data showed HYPE trading near $63.16, up 13.72% in 24 hours, with a 24-hour high of $64.21. The same page listed HYPE's all-time high at $64.23 on May 24, 2026.

Tether, Georgia plan lari-backed stablecoin GELT under new rules

Georgia’s central bank released stablecoin rules in March covering reserve backing, issuer documents and external auditor verification.Stablecoin issuer Tether and the government of Georgia plan to launch a stablecoin called “GELT” that would represent the Georgian lari under the country’s digital asset regulatory framework.

On Monday, Tether said the stablecoin is expected to support cross-border commerce and digital payments in Georgia. The company said GELT's structure, rollout and regulatory implementation will be announced at a later stage.

The plan builds on Georgia’s recent efforts to develop rules for digital assets and stablecoins, including a framework covering reserve management, redemption rights, issuer oversight and Anti-Money Laundering compliance. In March, the National Bank of Georgia said it had developed rules for the initial offering of “stable virtual assets,” including requirements for full reserve backing, offering documents and external auditor verification. 

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the partnership with Tether would help lay the foundations for a more connected and transparent financial world. National Bank of Georgia President Natia Turnava said the central bank welcomes the collaboration as part of its strategy to advance digital financial infrastructure. 

The announcement did not say who would legally issue GELT, where reserves would be held, or whether holders would have direct redemption rights. The company also did not provide a definite launch timeline. 

Tether acknowledged Cointelegraph’s request for comment. Cointelegraph reached out to the National Bank of Georgia for more information, but did not receive a response by publication.

Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit alleged the firm "helped to craft and implement strategies that facilitated FT's fraud," accusing the lawyers of assisting with regulatory and operational structures later tied to the misuse of customer fundsThe proposed settlement agreement still requires approval from US District Judge K. Michael Moore in Miami. Attorneys representing FTX customers, including prominent litigator David Boies, argued the deal was reasonable and would prevent prolonged and costly litigation.However, Fenwick rejected allegations that it knowingly participated in fraudulent conduct. In a public statement, the law firm said it "was not aware of the fraud at FTX," adding that it stood by the integrity of its legal work.
