The ongoing peace talks between the US and Iran have renewed hopes that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen, as previously reported by FXStreet. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) – the US oil benchmark – opened with a bearish gap below $92 on Monday, while Japan’s Nikkei is up roughly 3% as tensions in the Middle East ease.

Institutional demand for crypto could revive as falling oil prices cap US inflation, boosting risk appetite for Bitcoin and other tokens. SoSoValue data shows Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH)-focused Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) recorded roughly $1.26 billion and $216 million in outflows last week, respectively, while Hyperliquid (HYPE) led institutional demand with $72 million in inflows.

The Fed may open direct settlement rails to crypto firms as banks warn of liquidity risk $fedYou never see the most important part of any of your payments. When an app says your money moved, a number changes on your screen, and the transaction looks and feels finished.

But underneath those interfaces lies a separate, invisible chain of bank reserves, settlement accounts, and Fed infrastructure that determines when your funds actually clear, who controls that settlement, and which institutions are allowed to participate in it at all.

For crypto payments, that underlying system has been off-limits. Exchanges and crypto companies have had to route all of their dollar payments through partner banks, which handled the actual settlement with the Federal Reserve on their behalf. When those relationships collapsed during the failures of Silvergate and Signature Bank in 2023, they revealed just how fragile that relationship was, and the industry has been building the case for direct Fed access ever since.

Two converging developments this week have brought that case to a head. In December 2025, the Fed formally requested public comment on a new “payment account” that would let eligible non-bank institutions clear and settle payments through Fed infrastructure, without receiving the full package of privileges available to traditional bank master accounts.

Then, on May 19, President Trump signed an executive order titled “Integrating Financial Technology Innovation Into Regulatory Frameworks,” directing the Fed to submit a comprehensive review of its payment access framework within 120 days and establish transparent application procedures within 90. The executive order can't compel the Fed to act, but political backing at that level tends to clarify which way institutional attention is pointing.

From a macro perspective, MSTR’s latest move doesn’t look random at all.

The recent Middle East conflict triggered a spike in oil prices and the U.S. dollar, which pushed U.S. Treasury yields sharply higher. As yields climbed, bonds started looking more attractive relative to high-risk assets like Bitcoin. Consequently, BTC’s technical structure has stayed relatively weak throughout Q2. 

Against that backdrop, MSTR’s growing focus on convertible bonds is starting to draw attention. Put simply, a convertible bond is a loan investors give to a company that can later be converted into shares. So with Strategy leaning more into bond financing, the market is once again starting to question the strength of its balance sheet and long-term Bitcoin accumulation strategy.More importantly, this is exactly where STRC’s 11.5% yield becomes the main talking point.

From a technical and balance sheet perspective, that payout obligation adds another layer of pressure on MSTR, especially with the company potentially facing a major debt repayment wall by 2027 tied to the financing it used to buy Bitcoin. In this context, MSTR’s move toward bond financing looks less like a temporary adjustment and more like a broader shift in strategy.

Hyperliquid is emerging as a challenger to traditional exchanges and prediction markets, says FalconXCrypto trading platform Hyperliquid is beginning to compete with traditional exchanges and prediction market operators as it expands beyond perpetual futures trading, according to a new report from FalconX.

Senior crypto market strategist David Lawant outlined how Hyperliquid’s recent moves into pre-IPO markets, prediction contracts and tokenized real-world assets are broadening the platform’s appeal beyond crypto-native traders.

“Hyperliquid is seeing traction as demand for its HIP-3 markets expands to include pre-IPO markets,” the report said.

Hyperliquid first gained traction through crypto perpetual futures, a type of derivatives contract that dominates offshore digital asset trading. The platform’s native token, $HYPE, has skyrocketed 94% over the past three months. But FalconX said newer products could push the platform into more direct competition with firms such as CME Group, Intercontinental Exchange-backed prediction market Kalshi and Polymarket.

The report pointed to growing activity in Hyperliquid’s HIP-3 markets, which allow users to trade assets including equities, commodities, forex and pre-IPO contracts around the clock. FalconX said those markets gained attention after traders used them to speculate on companies such as Cerebras, Anthropic and SpaceX before public listings.

The platform has also begun rolling out HIP-4 outcome markets, which function similarly to prediction markets by allowing traders to bet on binary outcomes tied to politics, economics and crypto events.

FalconX said the ability to trade prediction contracts alongside crypto and real-world asset positions on the same platform could become a major advantage.
