A recent Reuters investigation claims that Nobitex, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Iran, was founded by two brothers connected to the influential Kharrazi family, a family with long-standing ties to Iran’s highest leadership circles. According to the report, the founders reportedly used an alternative surname in business records, which concealed their connection to one of the country’s most powerful political families.

Nobitex has become the dominant platform for crypto trading inside Iran and is said to serve more than 11 million users. Even during periods of conflict involving the United States and Israel, as well as nationwide internet shutdowns, the exchange reportedly continued operating and processed more than $100 million in transactions during wartime conditions.

Reuters also reported that investigators linked some transactions on the platform to sanctioned entities. However, estimates vary widely depending on the analytics firm. Some reports suggest flows in the hundreds of millions, while others place the figure much lower. These findings have renewed global discussions about how cryptocurrency can be used to bypass financial restrictions and sanctions.

Nobitex has denied being connected to the Iranian government and stated that illicit activity makes up only a small portion of total transactions. The case highlights the growing importance of crypto markets in geopolitically sensitive regions and raises fresh questions about regulation, transparency, and the role of digital assets in international finance.

Dennis Porter, founder of Satoshi Action, explained the radical shift in the US government and military’s perspective on Bitcoin. $BTC is no longer seen merely as an investment, but as a critical component of national defense.

Dennis Porter reported on how Bitcoin is beginning to be considered a “national security tool” behind closed doors in Washington. According to Porter, high-ranking military officials and lawmakers are now incorporating $BTC’s technical infrastructure into defense strategies.

Porter pointed to a recent congressional hearing attended by a four-star admiral (Admiral Paparo). Porter noted that the admiral told members of Congress and the Senate that they were researching Bitcoin and the “Proof of Work” mechanism for national defense purposes.

This is seen as the most concrete evidence that Bitcoin is being considered a tool for projecting power at the military level.

One of the most striking details is Bitcoin’s use as an “economic deterrent” against cyberattacks. Porter likens $BTC’s transaction fees to the use of “stamps” in physical mail. While free emails increase spam traffic, every transaction on the Bitcoin network requires a cost. This makes mass intrusion attempts and cyberattacks targeting military networks or critical infrastructure costly and unsustainable for the attacker.
