He urged adherence to U.S. demands rather than Israel's position in order to salvage the situation within the remaining nine days of the ceasefire window. Kent emphasized that the U.S. government's red line has never been 'zero enrichment,' but rather that 'Iran must not possess nuclear weapons,' which Iran has also agreed to. Since 2003, Iran has never sought to develop or acquire nuclear weapons, but it needs to retain uranium enrichment capabilities, making negotiations between the U.S. and Iran feasible. Kent stated that the current priority is to restrain Israel, reach an agreement, and open the Strait of Hormuz.
