Aave price drops to $90 after Kelp DAO exploit, derivatives hint at potential reboundAave price plummeted nearly 20% to around $90 by Monday morning following a massive exploit at Kelp DAO that left the protocol saddled with roughly $196 million in bad debt.

According to data from crypto.news, Aave (AAVE) price fell from $106 on Sunday to an intraday low of $89 on Monday before backpedaling on some of its losses and stabilizing at $91 when writing.

Aave price crashed following a steep contraction in Aave’s total value locked, which fell by nearly $8 billion over the weekend. As reported by crypto.news earlier, the drop came after attackers linked to the $293 million Kelp DAO exploit tapped liquidity from Aave, leaving close to $195 million in “bad debt” on the protocol and prompting a wave of withdrawals.

Figures from DeFiLlama show Aave’s TVL dropped from roughly $26.4 billion to $17.5 billion by Monday, costing it its position as the largest DeFi protocol.Crypto analytics platform Lookonchain noted that the drop came as some of the largest crypto whales withdrew funds from Aave during the turmoil. Notably, MEXC crypto exchange and Abraxas Capital withdrew $431 million and $392 million, respectively, while another unmanned whale withdrew $405.7 million.

While the Aave team confirmed it had frozen rsETH markets on its V3 and V4 deployments, the incident raised concerns over protocol security and has prompted retail investors to exit their positions rapidly.

Michael Saylor added a new post to his Bitcoin investment news, signaling a buy. The founder of Strategy, in a social media post, used the phrase “Think Bigger,” drawing attention back to his company’s Bitcoin strategy.

Market observers note that Saylor’s posts of this kind often signal new Bitcoin purchases. Historical data shows that Strategy frequently announces an increase in its reserves a day after such signals. Therefore, there is speculation that a new announcement regarding an increase in the company’s Bitcoin holdings may come next week.

According to the latest data, Strategy’s total Bitcoin holdings stand at 780,897 $BTC. The company’s Bitcoin reserves are currently valued at approximately $58.40 billion, with an average purchase cost of $75,577. Current data shows a 1.04% daily decrease in the portfolio. The company had recently turned a profit on its $BTC holdings, but this has reversed due to the decline in $BTC prices.

Strategy’s Bitcoin accumulation strategy has resulted in a total of 106 separate purchases to date. Among the most recent transactions, a purchase of approximately 13,927 $BTC, worth $1 billion, on April 13, 2026, stands out; and it is noteworthy that high-volume purchases continued throughout March.

Baghaei went further, saying the blockade amounted to collective punishment of Iranian civilians — language that under international law falls under war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Trump, for his part, told reporters that Iran fired shots in the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a serious breach of the ceasefire set to expire Wednesday, April 22.

BitMine Immersion Technologies (BMNR), the largest Ethereum-focused digital asset treasury firm, sped up its crypto purchase pace as chairman Tom Lee sees growing signs of the crypto "mini-winter" ending.

The firm reported Monday it acquired 101,627 ether ($ETH) last week, its largest weekly haul since December 15. The purchase, worth roughly over $230 million at current $ETH prices, lifted BitMine’s total holdings to 4.97 million $ETH.

The move comes as most digital asset treasuries — except Michael Saylor's bitcoin-focused Strategy (MSTR) — have slowed or halted buying in recent months. BitMine remains among the last large-scale buyers of ether-focused treasuries, continuing to provide a steady source of demand for $ETH.

BitMine’s total crypto and cash holdings stand at $12.9 billion. In addition to its $ETH treasury, the firm holds 199 bitcoin, $1.12 billion in cash and equity stakes including investments in Beast Industries and Eightco Holdings.

Chairman Thomas Lee said the firm sees signs that the recent downturn is nearing an end, pointing to $ETH’s rebound and broader market dynamics.

"Bitmine has maintained the increased pace of $ETH buys in each of the past four weeks, as our base case $ETH is in the final stages of the 'mini-crypto winter,'" Lee said.

He added that ether has risen sharply from its early February lows and has outperformed equities since the start of the Iran conflict, supported by demand tied to tokenization and AI-related use cases.

BitMine has also continued expanding its staking operations. The firm has staked more than 3.3 million $ETH, or about two-third of its holdings, generating roughly $221 million in annualized revenue.
