As part of the terms, Tehran reopened the Strait of Hormuz, the chokepoint carrying 20% of global oil. According to CoinDesk, citing Hamid Hosseini of Iran’s Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters’ Union, tankers must email cargo manifests, receive an assessment from Iranian authorities, and settle in Bitcoin within seconds before clearing passage.
The numbers that matter. $1 per barrel, paid on-chain. $2 million per fully loaded supertanker. Iran’s assessment process clears only 10 to 15 vessels per day under the new toll regime, down from 135 before the conflict, putting realistic daily revenue at $1.5 to $3 million. Bitcoin moved from $68,000 on April 7 to $72,200 by April 10.
