Bitcoin rises above $78,000, Fear & Greed Index exits 'extreme fear' zone

Bitcoin climbed above $78,000 early Wednesday morning, with roughly 2% price appreciation across the broader crypto market.

Analysts cited short squeezes and strong ETF inflows as drivers of the rally.

The crypto Fear & Greed Index has risen to 33 from 8 at the beginning of April.

Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other major cryptocurrencies saw moderate gains early Wednesday, supported by strong exchange-traded fund inflows and easing geopolitical tensions.

According to The Block's crypto price page, bitcoin rose 2.2% in the past 24 hours to trade at $78,015 as of 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Ethereum rose 2.7% to $2,386 in the same period, and the broader crypto market was up 2.3%.

"Crypto's upside reflects a confluence of easing geopolitics, strong ETF inflows, and constructive positioning," said Zeus Research Analyst Dominick John. "As Bitcoin broke above $75K, short positions were liquidated, triggering a mechanical squeeze."

Spot bitcoin ETFs have reported three straight weeks of net inflows, drawing in around $1.8 billion worth of capital. Plus, Michael Saylor-led Strategy has recently purchased additional bitcoin, surpassing BlackRock to become the largest institutional bitcoin holder.

Earlier today, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will extend the ceasefire with Iran to allow time for negotiations between the two countries, easing concerns over the approaching ceasefire expiry. However, Iran reportedly responded critically, accusing the U.S. for continuing to block Iranian ports.

Meanwhile, K33 Research said that bitcoin is likely to maintain its upward momentum, with a high possibility of more short squeeze events in the near term.

Bitcoin breaks out of months-long range on Iran ceasefire extension

Bitcoin just did something it hasn’t managed in months: it broke free.

After spending nearly three months pinned between $65K and $75K, $BTC surged past $79K on Wednesday, riding a wave of geopolitical relief after President Trump extended the US ceasefire with Iran just hours before the two-week deal was set to expire. The timing was, as they say, not subtle.

What happened

The ceasefire extension removed what traders had been pricing in as an imminent risk. An expiring deal with Iran, left to lapse, would have injected fresh uncertainty into energy markets and the broader risk landscape. Instead, the renewal acted like a release valve.

Bitcoin climbed 4.3% in 24 hours and 6.6% over the past week, pushing to levels not seen since early February. Ethereum followed closely, gaining 4.2% to reach $2,400. Solana rose 3.1% to $89, and $XRP held steady near $1.45.

Traditional markets moved in lockstep. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq both posted gains Wednesday morning, confirming this wasn’t a crypto-specific phenomenon. Risk assets across the board got the green light.

Here’s the thing: Bitcoin had been stuck in that $65K-$75K range since early February. That’s roughly 10 weeks of sideways price action, the kind of extended consolidation that tends to resolve violently in one direction or the other. This time, it resolved upward.

Uzbekistan launches tax-free crypto mining hub to attract foreign investment

Uzbekistan is launching a special area in Karakalpakstan called “Besqala Mining Valley” where crypto mining is officially regulated and allowed under government rules, with income from mining operations exempt from taxes until January 1, 2035, according to a new decree signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The initiative aims to attract investment, expand renewable energy use, and boost employment through regulated mining activities.

Mining is restricted to registered legal entities and is mainly intended to use renewable energy sources such as solar power, with additional provisions allowing the use of other controlled energy systems.

Licensing and supervision will be handled by a state-backed administrative, while operational approvals will be managed by a national agency. Companies can legally mine, trade, and convert crypto assets, provided all earnings are routed through domestic banking channels.

While mining income in the zone is exempt from taxes until 2035, operators must pay a monthly fee based on revenue and higher electricity tariffs when using the national grid.

The rules also include strict controls to prevent illegal activity, requiring companies and owners to pass background checks and follow financial transparency laws.

How Uzbekistan got here

Uzbekistan’s relationship with crypto has been a slow burn.

A 2018 presidential decree first acknowledged digital assets and established a basic regulatory framework, but it came with heavy guardrails. Mining was initially limited to legal entities using solar photovoltaic energy, and the regulatory posture was one of extreme caution.
