In February, PolyGun was hacked due to a code vulnerability, resulting in the theft of approximately $70,000 in user funds, while another copy trading app, Polycule, was hacked earlier for about $230,000. However, Polymarket does not require users to verify their identities, and many traders use VPNs to mask their locations and frequently switch accounts, making enforcement much more challenging compared to competitor Kalshi, which mandates user identity verification. Polymarket's trading volume in March was approximately $23 billion, a tenfold increase compared to the same period last year, and it is currently raising funds at a valuation of $20 billion, up from a valuation of $9 billion in October. Kalshi completed its funding in March at a valuation of $22 billion. Both platforms are facing scrutiny from lawmakers in multiple U.S. states, who believe that prediction markets effectively circumvent state laws on illegal gambling.
