White House: Trump and National Security Team Discuss New Iranian Proposal

04/27 21:21

On April 28, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany confirmed at a press conference that President Trump and his national security team met to discuss a new negotiation proposal put forward by Iran. McEnany stated that it was uncertain whether the meeting had concluded, but the proposal was indeed under discussion. However, she noted that she did not want to preempt the president or his national security team in making statements. According to a report by Axios on April 26, a U.S. official and two informed sources indicated that the U.S. had received a new negotiation proposal from Iran, relayed through Pakistan. The new Iranian proposal primarily focuses on resolving the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and the U.S. maritime blockade against Iran. As part of the proposal, a ceasefire would be extended for a long duration, or the parties would agree to permanently end hostilities. Nuclear negotiations would only commence after the Strait of Hormuz is reopened and the U.S. lifts its blockade.
