I recently finished reading this 600-page book and it has been an eye opener on many levels, especially on weather, a space I last tracked at my gig on a currencies and commodities research desk in Mumbai from 2012 to 2014. Part of my job involved tracking natural gas prices, which take cues from weather forecasts and sometimes weather derivatives, more specifically options on heating degree days (HDD) and cooling degree days (CDD).

Back then, it struck me how broken, fragmented and little known these weather options were, leaving the bulk of the world’s population exposed to the financial devastation of weather and climate risks

XRP Descending Channel Highlights Possible Area Where the Downtrend Could End
XRP currently trades within a descending channel pattern that suggests the downtrend may continue to new lows before a rebound could occur.

The broader crypto market has remained stuck in a downward trend, as selling pressure persists across the board. Since hitting the $3.6 all-time high in July 2025, XRP has continued to slide lower, now changing hands at $1.08. This represents a 70% decline from the peak.

Notably, the downward price action has resulted in a series of lower highs and lower lows over the past year, leading to the formation of a descending channel pattern on the daily chart.

For the uninitiated, a descending channel is a pattern where an asset moves between two parallel downward-sloping trendlines. In this case, the upper trendline acts as resistance, while the lower trendline acts as support.

The pattern often plays out during a consistent downtrend, as prices continue to drop lower. With both trendlines sloping downward, the asset persistently witnesses resistance and lower highs and support at lower lows until a breakout above the upper trendline occurs.

In contrast, the most active chains right now show a different kind of metabolism, as seen in the latest developer activity rankings this week.

The Worldcoin Foundation sold 217.4 million $WLD tokens to institutional investors including Pantera Capital, raising approximately $52.5 million. At an effective price near $0.24 per token, the deal closed at roughly a 36% discount to the spot market at the time. The tokens came from the team wallet, are now distributed across multiple addresses, and carry a one-year lock-up period.

The Worldcoin Foundation stressed that the sold $WLD does not represent equity or profit entitlements in Tools for Humanity, the main development firm behind the project. U.S. regulator warns prediction markets against cutting corners in event contracts.The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which has claimed a role as the leading regulator of prediction markets firms run by companies such as Kalshi, Coinbase, Polymarket and Crypto.com, issued an advisory on Friday reminding the businesses that they shouldn't cut corners with far-ranging contract certifications meant to encompass a wide array of events.

The agency said that "broad, template-style certifications should not be submitted," marking the second time in recent months that the regulator has had to warn about overly generalized submissions.

Many of the "designated contract markets" regulated by the CFTC "continue to self-certify event contracts" (in other words, prediction market contracts) as broad templates "without supplying the terms and conditions of each proposed permutation and a concise explanation and analysis with respect to the product’s terms and conditions, the underlying commodity, and the product’s compliance," the agency said.
