The assets appeared likely to be routed through crypto custodian BitGo before potentially reaching exchanges. No sale has been confirmed.

The two developments are not directly connected. But their timing puts renewed attention on a cryptocurrency built around Trump’s political brand as its price falls, and more project-controlled tokens move through the market.

Bitcoin and crypto prices have traded sideways for most of this year, with traders nervously braced for a dramatic shock.
The bitcoin price fell to under $65,000 per bitcoin in February and remains stuck in a downward trend even as the chief executive of Goldman Sachs reveals he’s suddenly backing bitcoin’s “ultimate catalyst.”
Now, as bitcoin hurtles toward a $27.9 trillion game-changer, SpaceX and Tesla billionaire Elon Musk has predicted money “won’t matter” in as little as 10 years—something that could have profound implications for the bitcoin price.
"Money won’t matter in 2036," Musk told The Economist editor-in-chief, Zanny Minton Beddoes, in a wide-ranging interview, predicting that within ten years the world will transition to having “incredible abundance.”

“What do you want money for,” Musk, who became the world’s first trillionaire on June 12 when SpaceX went public but has since seen his fortune fall to around $700 billion, asked, pointing to his prediction that a massive proliferation of robots will render all money effectively worthless as people have their needs effortlessly met.

“You you want money for goods and services, right? You want money for obviously food, housing, transport, entertainment,” Musk said. “If that is so abundant that there’s more that the robots and AI are providing more goods and services than you than any human could possibly consume.”

Musk has previously declared energy “the true currency,” fueling speculation among bitcoin supporters that he’s quietly backing the cryptocurrency while his two biggest companies, SpaceX and Tesla, hold major bitcoin reserves, 18,712 bitcoin and 11,509 bitcoin, respectively.

Bitcoin could lower mining difficulty by roughly 16% when its next adjustment arrives around July 26, handing the machines that remain online a considerably larger expected share of the network’s rewards while doing almost nothing to resolve the expensive power contracts, debt obligations and strategic pressures pushing some of the industry’s largest companies away from mining.

The network already lowered difficulty by 5% at block 957,600 on July 11, bringing it to 127.17 trillion. Hashrate Index reported that hashprice, the daily revenue miners expect from one petahash per second of computing power, stood at $30.88 per PH/s/day on July 13, with a seven-day average of $30.39.

That level was at or below breakeven for many operators depending on their power costs and machine models. While hashprice had recovered from the $27.60 level recorded around the beginning of July, it remains 37% below its October 2025 peak near $49.40.

Bitcoin’s protocol can automatically lower the computational burden required to produce blocks, but it can't renegotiate a miner’s electricity contract, refinance convertible notes, restore the value of aging machines, or make volatile mining revenue more attractive than a multibillion-dollar AI lease.

The recent Ethereum (ETH) price rally has lost momentum, but five key on-chain metrics suggest the network may be entering the early stages of a recovery.

After climbing from $1,796 to a recent high of $1,933, Ethereum retraced to around $1,876 on July 23. While the price has stalled, on-chain data from CryptoQuant indicates that activity on Ethereum’s base layer is showing early signs of improvement.

For much of the past three months, Ethereum’s fee environment has remained subdued. Median transaction fees have stayed more than 82% below their 90-day average, while median priority (tip) fees have been roughly 96% lower than normal.

However, short-term data paints a different picture. Over the past week, median tip fees surged nearly 86%, while median transaction fees increased by approximately 16%.

Although these gains come from historically low levels, they mark the first meaningful increase in fee pressure after an extended period of weakness. The uptick suggests that competition for block space may be returning after months of subdued activity.
