Why did WLD fall by 9% after World Foundation raised $52.5M via token sale?
The World Foundation, the non-profit organization that governs the World network (formerly Worldcoin), has raised $52.5M to advance the network. However, the deal soon triggered a 9% $WLD token price crash.

According to the organization, the deal was made possible by selling $WLD tokens to strategic investors including Pantera Capital, Selini Capital, Bain Capital Crypto, and Eightco Holdings.

On-chain data showed that the non-profit transferred 217.4M $WLD, with analysts estimating that the token’s sale price was $0.2415 per $WLD.

That would translate to a 30% discount from the press time price level of $0.3445 or a whopping 40% discount from $WLD’s price of $0.386 on Friday, before the update went public.

However, for its part, the World Foundation insisted the deal was based on the market price.

Funding was through a direct purchase of market-priced $WLD. All purchased tokens are subject to a 1-year lockup. No tokens were sold on exchanges.

Worldcoin: Is $WLD recovery likely?

Interestingly, the Friday update coincided with the project’s 43% inflation plan. Back in April, the project said it would cut its daily emissions by 43% starting from 24th July. Part of the tokenomics update read,

In aggregate, this will reduce the unlock rate across all token allocations by 43%, from about 5.1M $WLD per day to about 2.9M $WLD per day.

The community and investor tokens were slashed to achieve the new inflation plan.

In fact, Austin Barack, Founder of crypto VC firm Relayer Capital, projected that the inflation schedule and the recent raise would ease selling pressure.

Malware concealed inside downloadable games allegedly harvested credentials that attackers used to enter cryptocurrency accounts and remove victims’ digital assets. Local 10 News first reported the case on July 15, citing a 15-page federal criminal complaint that outlined the alleged malware scheme.

The complaint alleges that the operation ran from May 2024 through February 2026, compromising roughly 8,000 devices through eight infected games. Federal investigators accuse Zyaire Dontaevious Zamarion Wilkins, 21, of North Lauderdale, Florida, of providing financial support for the malware operation and helping promote the campaign.

The Harsh Reality of New Crypto: Just 7% of Major Tokens Beat Their Launch Price

The firm tracked 113 coins since their token generation event (TGE) price, with only 8 of them now above that price, a median return of -95.7%.

The sample is limited to projects with a market capitalization above $100 million as of July 21, CryptoRank told CryptoPotato.

CryptoRank Study: Eight Exceptions to the Rule

Eight coins included in the survey are in profit, led by $HYPE, $ONDO, EVA, and $NIGHT.

Hyperliquid’s $HYPE was up 1,519% from its launch price at the time of the survey’s publication on July 21st. Ondo Finance’s $ONDO followed at 101.4%, with EverValue Coin (EVA) and Midnight Network ($NIGHT) up a more modest 20.3% and 16.5% respectively.

These figures are revealing, as we can see that even among those that are up, only a small handful showed outsized performance, with six of the eight achieving double-digit increases at best. It’s worth noting that $HYPE was also listed in the new S&P Pantera Digital Asset Index, which excluded many high-performing crypto assets, including Bitcoin.

CryptoRank states that sell-offs, thin liquidity, and regulatory uncertainty were the main causes of major drawdowns in these projects, although the market has also observed major crashes due to exploits and other factors in the last two years.

Only 7.1% of Tokens Launched Since 2024 Are Still in Profit

Out of 113 projects with a market capitalization above $100M, only 8 are trading above their TGE price, while 105 are already in the red.

Traders Just Bet $2.5B on Bitcoin Price Hitting $72K — Will It Pay Off?

Bitcoin traders are targeting $72,000 after the Fed meets, but options positioning, ETF flows, and heavy resistance could complicate the rally.

The $70,000 to $72,000 range has become a key Bitcoin battleground this year.

In May, CryptoQuant identified $70,000 as major on-chain support before Bitcoin eventually fell through it. The same zone now acts as Bitcoin’s resistance.

Bitcoin has spent a cumulative 307 days trading between $60,000 and $70,000, according to Glassnode. A sustained move above roughly $70,000 would therefore mark an escape from one of its most persistent trading ranges.

“The first retest of this resistance zone is expected to catalyze a sharp response,” Bitfinex analysts wrote.

Getting there, however, may depend heavily on what happens in Washington.

World Foundation raised $52.5 million in a Worldcoin (WLD) token sale, and every token sold carries a 12-month lockup. Pantera Capital led the first close. 

The nonprofit will spend the capital pushing World ID into enterprise platforms, consumer apps, and AI agents.

Why the Foundation Sold Locked Tokens

The Foundation sold new tokens into sustained WLD price pressure.  Supply is the reason that concession matters. World had unlocked 4.9 billion of 10 billion WLD as of April 10, per its own tokenomics disclosure. 

Daily emissions then fell 43% on July 24, dropping from roughly 5.1 million tokens to 2.9 million. Despite this, WLD has struggled. 

The altcoin trades near $0.34, down more than 10% in 24 hours and 32.8% over the past 30 days. Large caps have fared better over the same stretch.

Bitcoin (BTC) gained 5.4% across 30 days, while Ethereum (ETH) added 14.9%, leaving WLD’s decline an outlier rather than a sector move. Against the downtrend, the 12-month lockup takes further immediate sell pressure off the table.

Investors Buy Into the Proof of Human Case

Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, and Susquehanna Crypto also joined the round. Eightco arrives as both buyer and incumbent. The Nasdaq-listed firm reported 283 million WLD in its treasury as of July 8, making it the largest publicly disclosed institutional holder.
