Bitcoin (BTC) experienced a sharp rise after months of decline.

While this rise pleases the bulls, it is noted that this increase is not due to a real trend reversal.

Speaking to Coindesk, Mark Connors, Chief Investment Officer at Risk Dimensions, stated that the rise in Bitcoin was due to a short squeeze event.

“This rise is clearly a short position clearing, as the Iranian attacks led to a rebalancing across the entire capital structure and Bitcoin gained momentum as spot bitcoin ETF outflows reversed.”

According to the analyst, the purging of short-bound investors could push the price higher in the short term.

However, the analyst noted that this is not a signal of a shift to an upward trend, stating, “This is not a signal of a reversal towards $100,000 and the crucial $75,000 resistance level.”

According to the analyst, the recent rise does not yet signal a definitive break from the broader downtrend. Significant resistance levels remain, and without consistently increasing spot demand, the bounce could end as quickly as it began.

Santiment, an on-chain analytics platform, stated that the recovery was likely driven by buying, primarily from short-term individual investors.

In a recent QuickTake report, a pseudonymous analyst with the username GugaOnChain analyzed Bitcoin’s current market structure, describing a battle between long-term conviction and short-term pressure. According to data from the on-chain platform, Bitcoin remains in a mature bear market, consistent with projections made in December 2025.

Analyst GugaOnChain noted that at the $60,000 support level, long-term holders are described as the primary defensive force. In particular, the 12 -18-month UTXO cohort has grown from 9.67% to 11.09%, indicating that more Bitcoin is aging into long-term storage.

This suggests strengthening conviction among holders who accumulated over a year ago and are choosing not to sell despite market weakness. However, he notes that historical bear market bottoms have seen this cohort reach much higher levels (30-44%), implying that while structural support is forming. A definitive macro bottom may not yet be confirmed.

BTC’S Next Move Hinges On US Institutions Returning

On-chain analytics firm Santiment highlighted a critical shift in crowd behavior. As Bitcoin threatened to drop below $65K, social data showed a huge spike in positive sentiment. Within the next 2 hours and 20 minutes, BTC rallied roughly 7%, reaching $69.9K before facing resistance at $70K.

According to Santiment, this type of rapid sentiment flip often signals a short-term, retail-driven pump. With discourse heavily focused on Iran, Israel, and U.S. tensions, volatility is expected to track geopolitical headlines. In short, the rally may have been fueled more by emotion and positioning than by structural change.

The latest chapter in the crypto-vs-banks saga unfolded on social media platform X, where journalist Eleanor Terrett reported on the fallout from a contentious White House meeting over stablecoin yield regulations. Interestingly, Patrick Witt, the White House digital asset advisor, was aiming to pass the legislation by March 1, but that timeline has not been met.

According to Terrett, an unnamed source who claimed direct involvement in the talks painted a bleak picture of the negotiations, a characterization that led to pushback from the banking side.

Terrett reported that bank trade representatives from the American Bankers Association (ABA), the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA), and the Bank Policy Institute, all of whom attended the White House meeting, were “perplexed” by the unnamed source’s framing and did not share those views. These views are related to claims by the source that there’s a very real likelihood that negotiations will fall apart unless Ripple CEO Brian Armstrong comes to the table.
