The crypto market has gained value at a time when the prices of US diesel and gasoline are rising. Gains in Crypto Market

The crypto market, on a broader level, has gained 0.89% in the collective market cap, reached 44 points on the FG Index, and jumped by 0.87% on the CMC20 Index. On an individual level, gains can be evidently seen from top tokens like BTC and ETH.

The flagship cryptocurrencies are up by 0.59% over the last 24 hours and 6.07% on a weekly basis. ETH has added 2.12% to its value since yesterday and 13.17% in the last 7 days.

Both cryptocurrencies are poised for more upticks in the months to come; however, uncertainty looms, stemming from the next inflation data and rate cuts. The crypto market remains volatile – it is recommended to do thorough research and risk assessment before investments.

US Diesel and Gasoline Prices

The US economy could be tested, with results to be rolled out in the next month. The Average diesel price has crossed $5 against a gallon. This puts manufacturing and freight under pressure as both sectors are driven by diesel prices. Needless to say, consumers would be the ones to bear the costs.

Gasoline price was last seen at $3.76 a gallon. The release of oil reserves has not precisely softened the blow. All sights are on the next inflation report, ahead of which the crypto market can be seen drawing an upward trajectory.

Bitcoin’s derivatives-led rally is already unraveling. Prices are back below $75,000
Bitcoin $BTC$74,282.79 has fallen back below $75,000, highlighting the fragility of its early Asian session rally to six-week highs.

Prices rose to $75,912 early Tuesday, the highest since Feb. 4, according to CoinDesk data. 10x Research pointed to activity in the derivatives market as the main driver of that rally. Specifically, closure of large bearish bets tied to $60,000 put options likely powered gains.

Further, as those puts were closed, market makers who had taken the other side of the trade needed to rebalance their exposure. That process can involve buying bitcoin, which likely created flows that pushed $BTC's spot price quickly above $75,000.

But the rally faded just as quickly, suggesting the move was driven more by the removal of downside hedges than by fresh conviction from buyers. According to 10x Research, the early gains weren't accompanied by significant upside call buying, which is usually a sign that traders are positioning for further upside.

The broader market has followed suit, with major tokens such as ether (ETH), $XRP ($XRP), solana (SOL), $BNB $BNB$675.96, DOGE$0.1004 and others receding from their respective Asian session highs. The CoinDesk 20 Index now trades at 2,162 points versus 2,202 early Tuesday.

Resistance holds

$BTC's quick pullback marks a failure to hold gains above $74,400, a former support level from early April last year that is now acting as resistance. That level had previously stalled selling in early April 2025 and paved the way for a fresh rally to record highs above $126,000 by October.

The inability to stay above $74,400 suggests traders are watching this level closely, and it may serve as a short-term ceiling for the market.

According to data shared by the cryptocurrency analytics platform Arkham Intelligence, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin holds over $527 million worth of cryptocurrencies in 10 different wallets that are being tracked.

According to platform data, $ETH is by far the largest asset in Buterin’s portfolio. Holding approximately 224,124 $ETH, Buterin’s holdings are worth about $523.9 million at current prices. This reveals that almost the entirety of his total portfolio value consists of Ethereum.

Buterin’s portfolio also includes some smaller tokens besides $ETH. Among these, the AETHLUSD token, which tracks the Ethereum price and is part of the Aave ecosystem, stands out. Buterin holds approximately 1.75 million AETHLUSD in his wallets, with a total value estimated at around $1.78 million.

Buterin’s wallets contain approximately 10 billion WHITE tokens, worth around $808,000. Additionally, his portfolio includes approximately 30 billion MOODENG tokens, valued at around $166,000.

However, it’s worth noting that these memecoins were sent to Buterin’s wallet for free by the token developers as a promotional effort.

The volatility created in global energy markets by the war with Iran in the Middle East could complicate the Fed’s interest rate cut plans. Rising oil and natural gas prices, creating new pressure on inflation, have significantly weakened expectations for an interest rate cut.

Economists expect the Fed to keep its policy interest rate unchanged at its March 18 meeting. However, many analysts had previously predicted a first rate cut in June. The war with Iran, however, has rapidly increased energy prices, leading to a reassessment of these predictions. According to Wall Street analysts, the increase in energy costs could lead to price increases in many areas, including transportation, food, and utilities.

This situation presents a difficult balance for the Fed. On the one hand, the central bank is trying to bring inflation down to its target level of 2% annually, while on the other hand, it has to support a labor market that is showing signs of slowing. The Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index, one of the inflation indicators most closely watched by the Fed, which was released on March 13, showed that prices continued to rise in January. It is noteworthy that this increase occurred before the full impact of the Iran war was felt in energy markets.

According to CME FedWatch data, which is based on futures markets, there is a 99% probability that the Fed will keep interest rates unchanged at 3.5%–3.75% at its March 18 meeting. The same tool calculates a 95% probability that the Fed will not change rates at its April 30 meeting, and a 77% probability at its June meeting. A month ago, these probabilities were 70% and 31%, respectively.
