Senator Seeks Trump Crypto Ban as 63% Call His Profits InappropriateGillibrand Makes Crypto Ethics a Condition for Her Vote
Congress should bar presidents, their spouses, and senior officials from issuing, sponsoring, or profiting from cryptocurrency while in office, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) said on Aug. 23. Her demand for an enforceable prohibition made ethics language a condition for supporting digital asset market structure legislation.

The New York Democrat’s record supports regulated digital asset markets rather than opposing cryptocurrency itself. She has co-authored bipartisan crypto legislation and advocated federal rules combining responsible innovation, consumer protections, anti-money laundering requirements, and regulatory enforcement. Her earlier proposal covering elected officials and their spouses focused on issuing or sponsoring digital assets, including meme coins. Gillibrand stated:

“We can pass smart, clear rules for digital assets and shut down presidential self-dealing at the same time. There must be an enforceable ban, and any market structure bill that leaves enforcement solely in the hands of the president’s own Justice Department and allows him to profit from crypto isn’t a reform. It’s a permission slip.”

Poll and Disclosure Intensify Scrutiny
Public concern extends beyond Gillibrand’s party, according to the Reuters/Ipsos survey conducted Aug. 14-17. Among 1,166 U.S. adults, 63% called Trump and his family’s cryptocurrency profits inappropriate, while 32% considered them appropriate. The online poll had a 3-percentage-point margin of error overall.

Dalio Backs Bitcoin as Debt Risks Intensify

Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio said growing debt, weakening demand for government bonds, and monetary expansion could erode currencies while supporting scarce assets. In an Aug. 21 LinkedIn analysis, he stated:

“I expect non-government-produced monies like gold and bitcoin to do relatively well.”

Bitcoin’s potential role rests partly on its predetermined issuance and maximum supply of 21 million coins. Its store-of-value characteristics include scarcity, portability, self-custody, and resistance to monetary debasement, although substantial volatility prevents it from providing consistent short-term stability.

Dalio’s support remains measured rather than unconditional, reflecting his continued preference for gold as the more established monetary asset. In May, he argued that bitcoin’s correlation with technology stocks weakens its safe-haven appeal when investors sell volatile holdings to cover losses elsewhere.

Before sellers wiped out some buying momentum, $FARTCOIN had risen to $0.20. However, the liquidation event then added another risk during an already volatile pullback. Seven wallets suffered large $FARTCOIN liquidations within only five minutes. The total liquidations reached 65.05 million, worth $12.93 million.

Such concentrated liquidations likely accelerated the decline after traders started locking in weekly gains. Moreover, the weekly recovery had not yet completely faded, despite the rapid pullback.

The token’s price remained considerably above the $0.12082 support that anchored its August recovery. Therefore, the sellers had tamped down the rally, but not yet broken the overall pattern.Exchange inflows strengthen the profit-taking case
Spot flows added another bearish element as $FARTCOIN entered into its post-rally correction. Netflows settled around $470.15K at press time, following a few sessions of smaller Netflows.

Positive Netflows usually indicate increased exchange-side supply with tokens flowing to trading venues. The development coincided with traders getting their hands on potential gains after the weekly 17% increase in the price.

Notably, earlier periods had seen larger negative Netflows, thereby reducing the exchange supply. The recent positive reading, therefore, presented a positive development in the short-term supply picture.

$XRP Supply Dilution Outpaces Fee Burns

$XRP’s circulating supply expanded through monthly escrow releases that exceeded the amount returned to escrow. Comparing $XRP with other crypto payment assets, an Aug. 19 analysis from 21Shares stated: “One metric where $XRP compares favorably is supply dilution. Circulating supply grew 5.5% year-on-year through escrow releases and re-locks, driven by approximately 272 million $XRP added monthly.”

According to 21Shares, $XRP dilutes its holders less than Toncoin, which runs at 9.6% a year, and Stellar’s XLM at 8.8%. Only Tron generated enough revenue to offset its supply growth, leaving holders a net positive return of 1.4% a year. The report added:

“$XRP holders face a net annual drag of 5.5% at current fee levels.”

The firm estimated that revenue would need to rise approximately 12,700-fold to offset one year of new supply at current market values. It also reported that U.S. spot $XRP exchange-traded products (ETPs) absorbed only 14.8% of the first-half increase in circulating supply and recorded net selling during two of six months.

According to the report, ETP buying covered more than half of new supply during May, the strongest month on record for those funds. Their $588 million annualized inflow rate still amounts to roughly one-seventh of annual net supply.

XRP Price Prediction: Breakout Above $1.55 Could Trigger Next Leg Up

XRP is holding above a critical support level following a recent liquidation-driven pullback, with several underlying fundamentals pointing to renewed upside momentum.

XRP briefly dropped below the previous quarter’s value area high near $1.43 during a liquidation spike, a move that initially signaled a possible local top forming. Since then, price has held above that level, which traders are treating as the most important technical marker in the current setup. 

A confirmed break below $1.43 would hint the recent high was in fact a local top, while holding the level keeps the door open for a push toward the next target at $1.82.

Two fundamental developments are being cited as supportive of XRP’s price. RLUSD, Ripple’s stablecoin, has grown to $2.1 billion in circulation, up from $1.57 billion on August 12. 

That growth is viewed as a positive signal because it represents real revenue for Ripple independent of XRP’s market capitalization, potentially reducing the company’s reliance on XRP sales for funding. Separately, XRP-linked exchange-traded funds have recorded more than $40 million in net inflows.
