CFTC expands crypto push as CLARITY Act awaits senate action
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission has named the first members of its new Innovation Task Force as the agency steps up its work on crypto regulation. 
CFTC named five task force members as it expands work on crypto market oversight.

Mike Selig also launched an innovation tracker covering crypto, AI, and prediction markets.

Agency roles still depend on whether Congress passes the CLARITY Act into law.

The move comes as lawmakers continue to debate the CLARITY Act, which would define the roles of the CFTC and the Securities and Exchange Commission in digital asset oversight.

CFTC Chairman Mike Selig first launched the task force on March 24 and appointed Michael Passalacqua to lead it. 

On Friday, the agency confirmed the first five members and outlined broader efforts tied to its push for clearer rules for new technologies.
The CFTC said Passalacqua will lead the group alongside five initial members. They include Hank Balaban, Sam Canavos, Mark Fajfar, Eugene Gonzalez IV, and Dina Moussa. The agency described the team as part of its effort to support work on crypto, prediction markets, and other emerging sectors.

Crypto prices remained in an uptrend today, April 11, helped by the ongoing talks in Pakistan between the United States and Iran. Bitcoin jumped to $73,000, while the market capitalization of all coins rose to over $2.47 trillion. This article provides the prediction of top tokens like Venice Token ($VVV), Hyperliquid ($HYPE), and Ripple ($XRP).

$VVV token price has staged a strong comeback in the past few months, making it one of the best-performing coins in the crypto industry. It has soared from a low of $0.900 in December last year to $8.3650 today.

Venice, which is an upcoming rival to ChatGPT and Anthropic, has done well because of the soaring valuations of companies in the AI industry and the rising token burns.

The token has moved above the Strong pivot reverse level of the Murrey Math Lines tool. It has also jumped above the crucial resistance level at $8.3650, invalidating the double-top pattern.

It has jumped above the 50-day and 100-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMA), while the Relative Vigor Index (RVI) has pointed upwards. The two lines of the Percentage Price Oscillator (PPO) have made a bullish crossover pattern.

Bitcoin’s weekly chart is showing an uncomfortable comparison to one of the most brutal sell-offs in its history, and at least one analyst believes the worst may still be ahead.

This technical outlook is looking at the current price action as a mirror of the 2022 macro fractal sequence that sent Bitcoin from $69,000 to a cycle low near $15,500, implying that the current cycle could see a similar drop.

A 2022 Repeat? The Fractal That Raises Concerns

Crypto analyst philarekt posted a warning on X this week, identifying what he described as “the most dangerous macro fractal” currently playing out in Bitcoin’s price structure. The technical case rests on a side-by-side comparison of two weekly Bitcoin charts: the 2021 to 2023 cycle on the left and the current cycle on the right.

In the 2021 chart, Bitcoin reached a peak price above $69,000 and proceeded to form a 3-tap structure, which are three distinct lower highs arranged within a descending channel, each bounce rejected before a final capitulation leg lower. The price ultimately fell 34% from the final tap to the absolute cycle bottom in a move that caught many market participants off-guard.

The current chart, with a cycle peak at $126,000 in October 2025, shows the same architecture forming in almost identical proportion. Both the 2022 and 2026 panels show Bitcoin respecting a slanted resistance line at the top while gradually falling within a downward channel. Each bounce fails to break out, and eventually the price has created successive lower lows.

As the war with Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz send oil prices higher, inflation is once again at the forefront of investors' minds.

In the U.S., inflation accelerated last month to 0.9%, driven mostly by energy costs linked to the Middle East conflict; core inflation, which excludes energy and food costs, surprisingly fell short of estimates. February's headline increase was just 0.3%.

For Michael Ashton, co-founder of the USDi stablecoin along with Andrew Fately, the figures underscore a flaw in crypto’s monetary architecture.

“The stablecoin boom has accidentally rebuilt only half of the monetary system,” Ashton told CoinDesk in an interview. “Stablecoins solved the medium-of-exchange problem for crypto, but nobody solved the store-of-value problem. USDi is the first serious attempt to finish building the monetary system onchain."

The $300 billion stablecoin market, dominated by dollar-pegged tokens, has become essential plumbing for crypto trading and payments. But those tokens, typically backed by cash or Treasury bills, are designed to hold a nominal value of $1, not preserve purchasing power. In real terms, Ashton argues, they are losing value.

“As stablecoins graduate from crypto-trading tools to genuine payment infrastructure, the store-of-value gap becomes a real institutional concern, not just a philosophical one," he said. "Treasurers, neobanks, and cross-border payment platforms holding float in stablecoins are quietly taking inflation risk they probably haven't priced."

USDi

USDi is an attempt to fill that gap.

Instead of tracking the dollar, the token is designed to track inflation itself. Its value increases in line with changes in the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI), effectively making it a blockchain-native version of an inflation-protected principal.

Data from CheckonChain suggests that selling pressure is beginning to ease. Realized daily losses are currently around $400 million, still higher than previous years, but trending downwards in recent weeks.

Data shows that actual losses surged to $2 billion on November 21st and February 5th, reaching levels unseen in years and exceeding those during the 2022 bear market.

CheckonChain stated, "The spot market is shifting from aggressive selling to net buying pressure, with both realized profits and losses declining."


Data from Glassnode also corroborates this trend. Based on a seven-day moving average, daily realized profits are around $300 million, near a twelve-month low.  This indicates that investors who bought Bitcoin at $60,000 are now slightly profitable and beginning to take profits.

Meanwhile, according to Glassnode data, the actual profit/loss ratio has risen to 1.4, the highest level since January. This metric compares the token value of profitable trades with the token value of losing trades, indicating that actual profits now exceed losses.

These indicators suggest that selling pressure in the market is easing, and Bitcoin may be nearing the end of its selling cycle.
