Billionaire Bill Ackman files to take Pershing Square public on the NYS

American billionaire Bill Ackman is moving to take his Pershing Square Capital Management public through a dual listing on the NYSE alongside its PSUS closed-end fund.

The New York-based hedge fund is targeting a $5 billion to $10 billion capital raise, offering PSUS shares at $50 and including Pershing Square stock as part of the deal.

Ackman says the effort is part of his plan to create a permanent-capital investment structure modeled after Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway.

Having founded Pershing Square in 2004 with $54 million, Ackman has turned it into a $20 billion-plus investment firm focused on undervalued companies.

Pershing Square’s IPO push comes as the fund faces mixed performance. It was down about 10% through February 2026, largely due to heavy exposure to big tech stocks like Alphabet, Meta, and Amazon, which together make up nearly half the portfolio.

Still, the long-term record is strong. Pershing Square returned approximately 34% in 2025, far ahead of the S&P 500’s 18% gain, and has delivered about 16% annual returns since launch.

Recently, the firm added positions in Amazon, Meta, and Hertz while selling long-time holdings such as Chipotle and Nike.

Beyond corporate stakes and activist campaigns, Ackman has adapted his investment philosophy to new asset classes. Since 2022, the billionaire has cautiously embraced Bitcoin, viewing the crypto asset as a possible hedge against inflation, dollar depreciation, and broader economic volatility.

Interestingly, amid the ongoing market turbulence, Bitcoin’s funding rate 30-day percentile has dropped to just 6%, the lowest level since early 2023, indicating that only 6% of the past 30 days recorded funding rates lower than today.

Bitcoin has dropped 18% year-to-date despite a 0.48% recovery in the past month to trade for $71,500 at the time of writing.

Amid the downtrend, the funding rate 30-day percentile has fallen to 6%, representing the most extreme bearish positioning since 2023.

This means only 6% in the last 30 days witnessed funding rates lower than what the market currently records.

Daily average funding shifted from +0.005% in January to -0.003% in February and worsened to -0.004% in March.

Extreme one-sided positioning at this level historically resolves sharply rather than gradually, increasing the risk of a short squeeze if prices begin to rise.

Merrick highlighted the growth, attributing it to the rapid expansion of the use of the stablecoin worldwide.

$RLUSD gains spotlight amid 733% surge

Merrick has pointed out that stablecoins, especially $RLUSD, are gaining mainstream appeal amid growing institutional interests and surging use cases for cross-border transactions.

The executive notes that cross-border B2B payments conducted through stablecoins have surged by 733%, reaching $226 billion in global flows.

With Ripple’s backing, $RLUSD has become a top choice among companies turning to blockchain for financial settlements given its ability to reduce foreign exchange costs.

Apart from cross-border settlements, Merrick further stressed that $RLUSD, alongside other stablecoins, is increasingly gaining traction in several other financial use cases, including remittances, payroll automation and corporate treasury management.

As the crypto industry continues to evolve, stablecoins are becoming particularly important in emerging markets as they are increasingly used as a hedge against inflation and currency volatility.
