Ethereum remains a leader in developer activity — BlockchainReporter’s recent developer activity rankings show the network at the top — but that hasn’t been enough to absorb the weight of overextended derivative traders.

The CryptoQuant note does not mince words. Its central signal is that the futures crowd is betting heavily on upside at a time when spot market engines are sputtering. When open interest builds alongside a dominant long bias and the price fails to push higher, the setup often resolves with a wave of liquidations, not a breakout. The RSI reading adds to the bearish tilt: it suggests momentum is fading, not merely pausing. That matters because weakening momentum in a long-leveraged environment often forces capitulation faster than traders expect.

What makes the current Ethereum patch unusual is the disconnect between derivative positioning and the network’s underlying baseline. Ethereum continues to attract more developer hours than any other chain, and liquid staking protocols, restaking, and layer-2 expansion show no signs of slowing. That kind of activity usually provides a floor under sentiment. But right now, the derivatives tail is wagging the spot dog. The market is not trading the fundamentals; it is trading the unwind risk.

The Central Bank of Brazil has introduced yet another requirement to approve the operation of virtual asset service providers (VASPs) in the country.

Under Normative Instruction No. 739, issued on Friday, the bank now requires VASPs to present an independent audit from an entity registered with the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) to issue operational licenses.

The audits, referred to as “reasonable assurance reports,” must contain data assessing the VASP’s legal compliance in different aspects, including institutional policy, organizational structure, and employee training; internal risk assessment regarding the use of the company’s products and services in the commission of money laundering and terrorism financing crimes; and procedures designed to get to know your customers.

Furthermore, this report should also assess the readiness of the audited VASP on monitoring, selection, analysis, and reporting of operations and situations suspected of money laundering and the financing of terrorism and weapons of mass destruction; monitoring and analysis of evidence of the occurrence or attempted occurrence of fraud and scams; and administrative asset freezes.

President Donald Trump said he would make a “final determination” on an Iran deal that would require the Strait of Hormuz to reopen for unrestricted traffic, with mines removed and tolls prohibited.

Iran responded that the agreement had not been finalized and that Trump's account was partly inaccurate.

While CME crude, US equities, ETF flows, and Treasury markets are either closed or less active, traders can still express Hormuz risk through $BTC and 24/7 oil perpetuals on venues such as Hyperliquid.

That turns the weekend into another live test of Bitcoin markets functioning as the first layer of macro price discovery before traditional markets reopen.

The EIA logged 20 million barrels per day of oil flows through the strait in 2024, roughly 20% of global petroleum liquids consumption, and the IEA separately noted that around 25% of global seaborne oil trade transited the route in 2025.

Middle East crude exports have collapsed from about 18.3 mb/d before the crisis to roughly 8.8 mb/d since March, prompting analysts to lift 2026 Brent forecasts to $90.44/bbl for a third consecutive time.
