U.S. state banking associations plan to launch their own nationwide blockchain After a year of policy battles in Washington between bankers and the crypto sector, the banks' state associations have announced they intend to launch a new bank-run blockchain network to facilitate financial innovations, including smart payments, tokenized deposits and stablecoins.

Thirty-nine of the state banking associations signed on to the "BankChain Alliance" with an aim to build out the blockchain by next year, they said in a Tuesday statement, describing the project as "industry-owned, industry-designed and industry-governed." It's "an unprecedented collaboration representing thousands of banks," said Kathy Kraninger, the head of the Florida Bankers Association and a former director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Kraninger, who is serving as interim chair of the project, said it'll be a secure, regulated network "that allows institutions of all sizes to provide modern capabilities so they can continue serving customers safely and efficiently in rural, urban and regional communities across the country.” The confederation of banks is still looking to hire a technology partner to build the project, which it intends to be "interoperable with other networks," according to the statement.To some degree, blockchain technology and cryptocurrency were created in answer to frustrations with the banking system, though bankers have been rapidly adopting certain innovations that have sprung from the sector.Last month, Swift, the bank-owned messaging network common across the global banking sector, announced that 17 banks — including Citi, BNY and Wells Fargo — were set to start testing actual transactions of tokenized digital assets on its blockchain-based ledger.

Bitcoin Beach report remains one merchant’s experienceAccording to Atack’s account, restaurant staff said almost every customer now paid by card. A worker reportedly declined a tip in satoshis because she had forgotten how to use her Bitcoin application.

“It was the first Bitcoin payment there all month,” Atack reported. He described the encounter as anecdotal, meaning it cannot establish payment activity across El Zonte or El Salvador.

Another visitor responding to the discussion said she had recently paid with Bitcoin in the area. She also observed signs advertising Bitcoin acceptance, showing that payment infrastructure remains available at some businesses.

The accounts are not necessarily contradictory. Merchant activity can vary by location, customer base and season. No comprehensive August transaction data for El Zonte was publicly available to measure the reported decline.

UN Adopts DFINITY AI & Cloud Tech for Governments – Why Isn’t ICP Rallying?
On August 25, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) officially partnered with the DFINITY Foundation (the non-profit behind Internet Computer or $ICP) to develop government-based AI and cloud systems.
According to the official announcement, the coalition will run for a year, during which the UN will test the effectiveness and safety of AI and cloud infrastructure that have been specifically tailored to public services.
Goals for UN partnership with DFINITY
Notably, the pilot will take place in three major avenues. The first is educational platforms where several governments will collaborate with DFINITY to customize and test decentralized frameworks for public education.
The second is public software development, where the team will test customized application development using DFINITY’S cloud engines and Caffeine AI. The latter is a specialized engine that enables autonomous agents to write code for other AI.
Finally, the project will test how well it can enable government self-custody in secure software deployment. This is meant to eliminate the need for local public service entities to share data with global tech giants.
Project scope and blockchain history
The UN will select five countries to participate in the above project, with each country presenting a national problem that would benefit from Web3 technology.
DFINITY and Pakistan’s Digital Authority launched a similar system earlier this year, enabling the country to keep national data within its borders.
Meanwhile, the UN has been researching blockchain-based technology for several months now following its deployment of a Blockchain Advisory Group.

BNB Smart Chain (BSC) activated its Pasteur hard fork on Tuesday, closing bridge verification and validator authorization gaps while introducing a new route intended to fit more transactions into each block.

In a Tuesday post, BNB Chain confirmed that Pasteur was live on the BSC mainnet. The team said the upgrade strengthens the network’s bridge, staking and governance security while giving blocks more capacity without changing its 450-millisecond block time.

The upgrade combines three BNB Evolution Proposals. BEP-682 rejects duplicate validator entries during cross-chain light-block verification, while BEP-695 tightens controls involving validator key rotation, slashing and governance voting. BEP-675 changes how specialist builders submit blocks to validators.

The upgrade prevents validators from being counted more than once in bridge approvals, removes authority from old validator keys and blocks restricted addresses from voting, while aiming to fit more transactions into blocks during busy periods.

Pasteur targets fuller blocks

Under BSC’s previous block-building route, a builder executed transactions before submitting a proposed block, and the validator executed them again before signing it. BNB Chain said the repeated work took time away from builders operating within the network’s block window, sometimes leaving blocks underfilled.

BEP-675 allows builders to submit blocks they have already executed. Validators check the proposed block against consensus rules, sign and broadcast it, then complete full execution verification afterward. Builders can also continue using the previous route, under which validators execute transactions before signing.

XRP saw a surge in activity on its network, with Active Addresses rising 654.71%. That growth added a new layer to the price recovery by showing stronger network participation.

The Total Active Addresses increased from 47,180 to 356,070, signifying a significant growth in network engagement. 

This rapid growth strengthened the activity supporting XRP’s recovery rather than leaving price gains isolated from network usage. Besides, the surge in participation also provided a larger potential user base for engaging with XRP in the recent price rally.

However, Active Addresses alone could not confirm whether participants were accumulating XRP or transferring existing holdings.

The token’s price action added some context as XRP’s price surged significantly with the expanding network engagement.
