Recent data from Coinbob and Lookonchain reveals that the whale has officially closed its extensive short positions and flipped long on the market’s top ten assets, bringing its total position size to a staggering $356 million.
The Great Unwinding
The transition began with a disciplined liquidation of short positions across six major cryptocurrencies. This "short-squeeze" exit strategy was highly lucrative; the address closed out over $240 million in short exposure, with the BTC short alone accounting for $140 million. By the time the dust settled, the whale had locked in approximately $3.26 million in realized profits. This maneuver highlights a sophisticated risk management framework, transitioning from a hedge-heavy stance to an aggressive growth posture as market sentiment shifted.
High-Leverage Bullish Exposure
As of the early hours of January 9, the whale’s portfolio has been restructured into a heavy long-bias. The cornerstone of this new strategy involves 15x leveraged positions in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). Each of these positions is valued at approximately $137 million. With an average entry price of $90,600 for BTC and $3,104 for ETH, the whale is already seeing floating profits in the mid-six-figure range for both assets.
Beyond the "Big Two," the whale has diversified into high-leverage positions in altcoins, including a significant 20x long on XRP.
