Michael Thaler Halts Bitcoin Purchases, Increases Cash Reserves by $525 Million

After halting its regular Bitcoin purchases, Strategy, owned by Michael Thaler, continues to increase its cash reserves, now sufficient to pay dividends for 2.1 years.

Michael Thaler, chairman of Strategy, the world's largest Bitcoin fund manager, has not announced any Bitcoin purchases to increase its cash reserves for over a month.

Strategy is known for its weekly Bitcoin purchases, but the company has not made any purchases in the past four weeks, instead continuing to expand its cash reserves.

This Bitcoin activist appears to have paused his weekly Bitcoin purchases amid growing speculation about Strategy's stock dilution and criticism of his business model from many industry insiders.

Instead of buying Bitcoin, Strategy has been steadily increasing its cash reserves over the past month to cover dividend payments.

Strategy recently disclosed a significant increase of $525 million in its dollar reserves, bringing its total cash reserves to $3.75 billion as of Monday, July 27.

The company further confirmed that its billions of dollars in cash reserves are sufficient to pay dividends for approximately 2.1 years, a move that has sparked considerable discussion in the cryptocurrency community

Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of Strategy Inc. (Nasdaq: MSTR), revealed on July 27 in an X post that future STRC repurchases may be funded through either bitcoin sales or MSTR stock sales, depending on market conditions. STRC is Strategy's Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock, carrying a $100 stated amount and a dividend rate that management evaluates monthly.

Bitcoin sales could become an attractive financing option when STRC trades sufficiently below $100, allowing the company to retire preferred shares at a discount.

Saylor said the company aims to keep STRC trading near its $100 stated amount with high liquidity, low volatility, and sustainable independent demand. Under Strategy's digital credit capital framework, it does not intend to issue additional STRC below $100.
