Why is XRP now in the red after 50% surge in a week?

$XRP is down 2.2% over 24 hours after climbing 49.4% over seven days, putting the token back in negative territory after a strong week.

The drop comes as crypto traders watch the payments business around $XRP change, as large banks keep rolling out blockchain systems aimed directly at the pre-funding problem. JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) is doing that through Kinexys.

In June, JPMorgan expanded Blockchain Deposit Accounts to eight currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, HKD, JPY, RMB and SGD. Customers can move those balances around the clock and swap supported currencies onchain.

A company holding dollars can receive yen without first buying a separate crypto asset to bridge the trade. JPMorgan can set the FX price, exchange the currencies and log settlement on its blockchain immediately.

Citigroup (NYSE: C)’s 24/7 USD Clearing network reaches more than 250 banks across 40-plus markets. Citi Token Services also moves tokenized commercial-bank deposits using blockchain infrastructure. Citi says combining both systems lets institutions make overseas payments quickly while needing less money parked in advance.

Real-Time Liquidity Sharing can also process payments without making banks fund each account ahead of time. Ninety seconds is still slower than the $XRP Ledger’s three-to-five-second settlement range. But companies may care more about using cash already inside a regulated bank than routing the payment through $XRP.

After a year of policy battles in Washington between bankers and the crypto sector, the banks' state associations have announced they intend to launch a new bank-run blockchain network to facilitate financial innovations, including smart payments, tokenized deposits and stablecoins.

Thirty-nine of the state banking associations signed on to the "BankChain Alliance" with an aim to build out the blockchain by next year, they said in a Tuesday statement, describing the project as "industry-owned, industry-designed and industry-governed." It's "an unprecedented collaboration representing thousands of banks," said Kathy Kraninger, the head of the Florida Bankers Association and a former director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Kraninger, who is serving as interim chair of the project, said it'll be a secure, regulated network "that allows institutions of all sizes to provide modern capabilities so they can continue serving customers safely and efficiently in rural, urban and regional communities across the country.” The confederation of banks is still looking to hire a technology partner to build the project, which it intends to be "interoperable with other networks," according to the statement.

To some degree, blockchain technology and cryptocurrency were created in answer to frustrations with the banking system, though bankers have been rapidly adopting certain innovations that have sprung from the sector.

Last month, Swift, the bank-owned messaging network common across the global banking sector, announced that 17 banks — including Citi, BNY and Wells Fargo — were set to start testing actual transactions of tokenized digital assets on its blockchain-based ledger.

However, in April, banking groups sought to slow down the implementation of regulations stemming from last year's Guiding and Establishing National Innovation

Signs of Fading Momentum

Soloway pointed to a few technical warning signs building on the chart:

Growing upper wicks on recent candles, a pattern he said signals increasing selling pressure as price pushes higher
A trend line, previously support, that is now acting as resistance after being broken and retested
A cluster of resistance levels stacking up in the $80,000 to $83,000 region
The One Question That Matters

According to Soloway, confirming a genuine trend reversal comes down to a single technical test. Has Bitcoin made a higher high compared to its prior swing high?

The relevant prior high sits at $82,830
As of this analysis, Bitcoin has not yet closed above that level
A confirmed break above $82,830 would mark the first higher high in the current pattern, an early signal of a potential shift from a downtrend to an uptrend
Soloway was clear that even a break above this level would only be the “beginning stages” of confirming a new bull market, not definitive proof on its own.

South Korea to Debate Scrapping One Exchange-One Bank Rule for Crypto Firms.South Korea’s National Policy Committee is set to debate a bill today that would eliminate the so-called one exchange-one bank rule, a regulation requiring digital asset exchanges to partner with a single bank for real-name account services. The amendment, part of the Act on Reporting and Use of Certain Financial Transaction Information, is among 136 bills on the agenda for the full committee meeting at the National Assembly.

What the Amendment ProposesThe proposed change would allow virtual asset service providers (VASPs) to obtain real-name verified deposit and withdrawal accounts from one or more financial institutions. Currently, exchanges must maintain a single banking partnership, a rule introduced in 2018 to curb money laundering and enhance transparency in crypto trading. The amendment also stipulates that the standards, conditions, and procedures for opening such accounts would be set by presidential decree, granting the government flexibility to adjust requirements as the market evolves.

If passed, the change could significantly alter the operational landscape for crypto exchanges in South Korea. Exchanges have long complained that the one-bank rule limits their ability to scale services and negotiate favorable terms. By allowing multiple banking partners, the amendment could foster greater competition among banks and improve access to banking services for smaller exchanges, which have often struggled to secure partnerships due to risk-averse lenders.
