Term Finance loses estimated $8.5M in vault governance exploitDecentralized lending protocol Term Finance lost an estimated $8.5 million after an attacker exploited governance control of its strategy vaults, according to blockchain security firms.

On Sunday, PeckShield said the attacker drained about 2,843 Ether ($ETH), valued at $6.87 million at the time, and 1.68 million USDC, which was exchanged for approximately 1.68 million Dai (DAI). CertiK made a similar estimate, placing the total loss at around $8.5 million.

The reported loss represented about 68% of the $12.45 million held in Term’s vault product before the attack, including nearly all of its approximately $8.8 million in Ethereum deposits, according to Defillama data.

Term Labs said it had irreversibly shut down all Term Meta Vaults and revoked their DAO governance roles, permanently preventing further deposits while keeping withdrawals open. Based on its investigation so far, the company said the underlying Term protocol and its direct borrowing and lending markets were unaffected, though it was still verifying the scope.

Cointelegraph was unable to reach Term Labs for comment. The company does not list a public press contact, and its direct messages on X were closed.

Attacker allegedly took control through governance
Onchain monitoring service Defimon said the attacker cheaply acquired a majority of a sparsely held governance token and passed proposals that allowed it to seize control of Term’s vaults. Term has not confirmed how the attacker obtained voting control or which governance functions were used.

The vault contracts use Yearn V3 infrastructure. However, Yearn said the attack involved a custom governance wrapper and the attack vector does not apply to standard Yearn vault setups.

Stablecoin neobank Fasset lands $1 billion valuation as SBI backs its payments pushStablecoin-focused digital bank Fasset said Monday it has raised $68 million in a funding round led by Japan's SBI Group, valuing the company at $1 billion just three months after its previous financing.

The investment follows a $51 million round in May, bringing Fasset's total funding this year to $119 million. Early backer Speedinvest and a group of strategic investors participated in that earlier round.

Fasset, headquartered in Los Angeles, operates a financial platform that lets consumers and businesses hold, send, spend and invest across currencies and assets, using stablecoins as part of the settlement infrastructure behind the scenes. The company said it processes more than $40 billion in annualized transaction volume across 125 countries.

The firm’s business has expanded sharply over the past year, CEO Mohammad Raafi Hossain told CoinDesk. Revenue has grown roughly six-fold year over year, and the company has been profitable for 12 consecutive months, he said. Fasset did not disclose its revenue or profit figures.

Revenue came mainly from its institutional and retail businesses, including growing stablecoin payments and settlement activity, Hossain said. Cards and bank accounts are beginning to generate new revenue, he added.

The firm is part of a broader wave of fintechs building financial services around blockchain networks and stablecoins. Once used mainly to move money between crypto exchanges, stablecoins are increasingly playing a role in remittances, corporate treasury operations, and international payments. The use case is especially relevant in emerging markets, where cross-border transfers can pass through several correspondent banks, adding time and fees along the way.

The RSI had previously overshot into overbought territory but was now back down to 62.85 at the time of writing. The drop reduced the overheated conditions without moving the indicator toward its neutral zone.

On the other hand, Parabolic SAR stayed below price at $0.16190, maintaining a positive technical setup. That level sat above the important $0.15348 horizontal support, creating a nearby defensive area.

The weekly recovery structure could be maintained with a hold above these levels. Eventually, buyers would then have the opportunity to test $0.20 again if the selling pressure eases.

However, losing $0.15348 would expose the $0.12082 support level and strengthen the case for a deeper correction. The current pullback is therefore a key post-rally demand test.
