Missouri AG sues crypto ATM operator CoinFlip 'for enabling scams'

Missouri is suing the company behind cryptocurrency ATM operator CoinFlip for "knowingly facilitating fraudulent transactions and profiting from them," in the latest move by a US state authority targeting digital currency kiosks and ATMs.

In a Wednesday notice, the office of Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway said the lawsuit against GPD Holdings, doing business as CoinFlip, was in response to incidents of fraud, including against the state's "seniors and veterans." The state began a probe in December into several crypto ATM companies, including Bitcoin Depot, which recently filed for bankruptcy.

CME is launching a VIX style fear trade to Bitcoin. Now comes the hard partin traditional markets, the VIX gives traders a way to hedge or trade expected stock-market volatility rather than take a direct view on the S&P 500. CME Bitcoin volatility futures now give Bitcoin traders a regulated version of that idea: a way to bet on volatility without betting on Bitcoin's price.
The exchange plans to list Bitcoin Volatility futures to start trading on June 1, while a May 14 Commodity Futures Trading Commission product record lists the contract as Certified.
That makes the launch a market-structure test: whether Bitcoin is ready for a regulated futures contract tied to expected turbulence itself.

Coinbase Says AI Cut Restriction Resolution Times by 90%Coinbase is moving deeper into AI across two parts of its business at the same time, i.e., compliance operations and stablecoin payments for AI agents.

CEO Brian Armstrong said the exchange rebuilt nearly all of its compliance workflows with AI systems handling most repetitive work. The company claims account restriction resolution times dropped by around 90% after the overhaul.

This change comes as Coinbase promotes AI-agent payments using USDC on Base, a market the company believes could grow larger than traditional human-driven online commerce.

AI Takes Over More Compliance Work
Armstrong said AI systems now process 55% of US fraud cases internally. The company is restructuring teams around what it calls “AI-native pods,” where smaller groups of employees work alongside automated systems instead of handling every task manually.

The company still keeps human review in place for final validation. Armstrong added that employees now focus more on complex decisions while AI handles repetitive reviews and case sorting.

The operational change is tied directly to cost reduction and scale. Compliance is one of the largest expenses for regulated crypto exchanges because fraud reviews, sanctions checks, and transaction monitoring require large teams.

Coinbase cut around 14% of its workforce during the restructuring. Based on the company’s reported headcount, that equals roughly 660 to 700 jobs removed.

The company’s model now works more like automated triage. AI systems process standard fraud and compliance cases first, while human staff step in only when transactions require deeper review or judgment.
