Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin warns of the dangers of AI being controlled by a few big tech firms

Crypto’s next major inflection point is coming from artificial intelligence (AI).

That's according to Consensys CEO and Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin. He told CoinDesk that autonomous or semi-autonomous agents can transact, coordinate and verify one another on decentralized networks, using crypto rails as a foundation for machine-driven activity.

Lubin, who will be speaking at Consensus Miami 2026 next month, said he is “sympathetic to the idea that blockchain is for machine intelligences,” but does not see humans being displaced. Instead, increasingly intelligent interfaces will abstract away complexity, allowing users to interact with crypto systems through intent rather than manual inputs. In that model, AI becomes the intermediary layer between people and protocols.

That vision comes with risks. If AI infrastructure remains concentrated among large technology firms, “we could be in trouble,” Lubin warned. He argued that decentralized systems and cryptography will be essential in ensuring accountability, enabling machines to “check on one another” in transparent, verifiable environments.

Within that broader shift, products like MetaMask — a Consensys product — are evolving to reflect the change. Lubin said the wallet is being rebuilt as “a new kind of neobank that you own and control,” part of a transition toward what he described as a “personal money operating system.” AI-powered agents could act on behalf of users, managing assets, executing transactions and navigating a growing decentralized economy. “You can walk around with your personal financial system in your pocket,” he said.

All eyes on Bitcoin this weekend as Iran is already disputing the US narrative on the Hormuz deal


Bitcoin rallied hard after Iran said it was reopening the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping.

Bitcoin hit the highest level since February, oil prices dropped, Wall Street notched another record, and the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield slipped to 4.24%. But here’s the catch: markets acted as if the reopening had solved the core standoff between Washington and Tehran.

Look closer, though, and the story gets more complicated. The opening is only temporary, the blockade is still in place, mine-clearing operations are ongoing, and there’s plenty of confusion about what Iran has actually agreed to.

That matters even more heading into the weekend. U.S. stocks, Treasuries, and most major markets shut down after Friday, but Bitcoin keeps trading.

So once again, Bitcoin becomes the first big, liquid market to test whether Friday’s rally was built on real progress or just hope.

The public messaging from Washington also leaves room for a reversal. Trump told Axios he expects a deal “in a day or two”, and the same report said the outline under discussion could involve the U.S. releasing $20 billion in frozen Iranian funds in exchange for Tehran giving up its enriched uranium.

The Washington Post reported that Iran had not confirmed Trump's claim that it would hand over what he calls “nuclear dust,” while also noting that earlier U.S. claims about Iranian commitments had already proved unreliable or had fallen apart.

On the 12th birthday, one of the leading privacy coins, Monero, experienced a small drop of 3% following a consolidation and the correction in the overall crypto market.

According to CoinMarketCap, the cryptocurrency plunged by around 2.95%, forcing its price to slip below $343.35. Despite the drop, the cryptocurrency still holds an impressive market capitalization of around $6.33 billion. However, the daily trading volume reported a drop of around 1.5% and is currently revolving around $110.23 million.

The drop in Monero mainly comes from ongoing sector rotation, as money moves into Bitcoin amid a rally, while overall sentiment across altcoins stays neutral. This is also confirmed by the altcoin season index, which is slightly leaning toward Bitcoin right now. This kind of capital rotation in Bitcoin is reducing demand for privacy-focused coins such as Monero.

Monero Faces Rejection at $355 Amid Correction in Bitcoin

Monero is forming a converging wedge pattern on the daily chart, a setup that generally creates pressure and often leads to a clear breakout once the price moves outside the narrowing range. Some analysts also notice consolidation inside a tight band on the four-hour timeframe, which raises the chance of a sharp directional move. The token has traded between $340 and $355 over the last few weeks. This pattern is showing balanced short-term conviction but sets the stage for volatility linked to upcoming network updates or changes in overall market trends.

Kelp DAO пострадал от взлома моста на сумму 292 млн долларов, что привело к истощению резервов rsETH, а Aave заморозил затронутые рынки.

Протокол ликвидного рестейкинга Kelp DAO столкнулся с масштабной атакой, которая причинила ущерб примерно на 292 миллиона долларов и вызвала сбои в работе протокола кредитования Aave.

Уязвимость была впервые обнаружена блокчейн-исследователем ZachXBT примерно в 14:52 18 апреля.

Злоумышленник манипулировал уровнем обмена сообщениями между сетями LayerZero (системой проверки, подтверждающей легитимность инструкций между сетями), заставив его поверить, что запрос на перевод поступил из другой сети.

Поддельное сообщение привело к несанкционированному переводу 116 500 rsETH, токенов ликвидного рестейкинга Kelp DAO, стоимостью около 292 миллионов долларов, как показывают данные блокчейна.


Украденное количество составляет около 18% от общего объема циркулирующих токенов rsETH, примерно 630 000 токенов.

Kelp DAO подтвердила на X, что активировала экстренные меры защиты и немедленно остановила внесение и вывод средств rsETH, а также координирует свои действия с LayerZero и Unichain.
