Publicly traded Bitcoin mining firm Cango (NYSE: CANG) has joined the list of major players using their BTC holdings to manage debt and pivot to AI investments. 

On Wednesday, the firm announced that it sold 2000 BTC in March, calling it a “strategic de-leveraging” to retire its BTC-backed loans. 

The firm added that it raised $75 million and that some of the proceeds from the “strategic de-leveraging” will help drive its diversification.

Bitcoin miner fees are close to zero as cost to mine nears $80,000 with difficulty about to drop 5%

With fees contributing almost nothing, miners depend on price, efficiency, and cost control as the next reset approaches.
Bitcoin mining is still running on the subsidy, not demand.

That is the more useful place to start as we head into the next Bitcoin difficulty adjustment window, which CoinWarz now estimates for April 18, 2026, with difficulty projected to fall from 138.97 trillion to 132.14 trillion, a decline of 4.91%.

The schedule matters less than the structure underneath it. YCharts, using Blockchain.com data, showed daily Bitcoin transaction fees at 2.443 BTC on April 8, down 69% from a year earlier.

With the block subsidy fixed at 3.125 BTC and the network producing roughly 144 blocks a day, fees are still contributing only a sliver of miner revenue in BTC terms.

That leaves the next few weeks framed by a narrower and more useful question. If fees stay pinned near the floor, what actually determines miner survivability?

The answer starts with the revenue stack, then moves to the cost stack, then to the adaptation stack. Revenue still depends overwhelmingly on the subsidy and Bitcoin price.

Costs still depend on power, fleet efficiency, debt, and treasury policy. Adaptation depends on how much flexibility an operator has when mining alone no longer offers an attractive enough return on power and infrastructure.

The role of the coming difficulty is secondary. A lower difficulty target can ease pressure on operators by improving output per unit of hash when price and fees hold steady. In the current environment, that distinction shapes the entire operating map for miners.

Bitcoin miners get paid from two sources: the subsidy and fees. Subsidy is the protocol-level issuance attached to each block.

TD Cowen said the recent White House report on stablecoins is unlikely to change political hurdles for the crypto bill, as banks are expected to continue opposing it.

The firm said the path could become even tougher as the report suggests the proposed compromise on stablecoin yield may not get the President's support.

The recent White House report on stablecoins is unlikely to ease political hurdles for crypto legislation, investment bank TD Cowen said, adding that the path for the Clarity Act could become even more difficult.

The report, released by the White House Council of Economic Advisers on Wednesday, said prohibiting yield on stablecoins is unlikely to have a meaningful impact on bank lending. It said most stablecoin reserves flow back into the banking system, and only a small share is effectively removed from lending.

Crypto prices have been climbing slowly this week, with around $90 billion being added to total capitalization since Monday.

This week’s batch of Bitcoin options contracts has a put/call ratio of 0.71, meaning that there are more longs than shorts expiring. Max pain is around $69,000, according to Coinglass, which is lower than current spot prices, so many could be out of the money on expiry.



Open interest (OI), or the value or number of Bitcoin options contracts yet to expire, remains highest at the $80,000 strike price on Deribit, with $1.6 billion as bullish bets now become dominant.

Total $BTC options OI across all exchanges has fallen back following the end of the Q1 expiry event and is currently $34 billion.

HSBC and Anchorpoint Financial gain first Hong Kong stablecoin issuer licenses
HSBC and Anchorpoint Financial have gained the first two stablecoin licenses in Hong Kong, the HKMA confirmed.

Anchorpoint Financial is a joint venture between Standard Chartered, Animoca Brands, and HKT.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued the region's first stablecoin licenses to HSBC and Anchorpoint Financial, a joint venture between Standard Chartered, Animoca Brands, and Hong Kong Telecommunications, the regulator confirmed on Friday.

Hong Kong had been expected to issue its first stablecoin licenses in Q1, with HSBC and Standard Chartered previously reported to be among the first recipients.

However, that deadline was missed, with the HKMA pushing applicants to refine application details regarding reserve asset disclosures, anti-money laundering controls, redemption mechanisms, and how they would perform under extreme stress scenarios, before granting approvals.

Ultimately, the inaugural recipients did not have to wait long, as The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited and Anchorpoint Financial Limited were listed as licensed stablecoin issuers on its Register of Licensees under the Stablecoins Ordinance, effective April 10.

"The granting of stablecoin issuer licences is an important milestone for the development of digital assets in Hong Kong," Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the HKMA, said in a press release. "The regulatory regime provides an orderly operating environment for stablecoin issuers to apply innovative technologies while ensuring robust user protection and effective risk management, which will foster the development of a healthy, responsible, and sustainable stablecoin ecosystem." 

The companies intend to complete the necessary preparation work and launch business in the coming few months, according to the release.
