Morpho’s $170mln interest haul hides bigger question: Can it beat Aave?

Morpho, a decentralized DeFi lending protocol, is making headlines for the right reasons.

As per a recent update, borrowers on Morpho paid a total of “$170M in interest during the past year,” as reported by Token Terminal. Though this might raise eyebrows at first glance, the hidden layers tell a completely different story.

With a roughly 10% of ‘take rate,’ the Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) would generate about $17 million in annual revenue. This would take place against a $1.7 billion valuation. Calculated together, this means that Morpho is valued at 100x its annual revenue.

In simple terms, compared to its current earnings, investors are valuing Morpho at a much higher price. So, even if the user at Morpho paid a huge sum of $170 million in interest, only $17 million will go to the DAO.

However, it’s important to note that all this is happening in anticipation of a revenue that will skyrocket exponentially.

Morpho vs Aave investment strategies

This, in comparison to Aave [AAVE], which recently made news for crossing $10 million in deposits, is shocking.

As per Token Terminal’s data, Aave has generated $140 million in annual revenue against a $1.5 billion valuation. This means that in comparison to Morpho [$MORPHO], Aave is valued at much less than 10-11x its annual revenue.

So, in a nutshell, Morpho is focused on user yield and user attraction with its lower fees. Whereas Aave has a higher fee-capturing model and is already optimised for revenue, unlike Morohpo, in which monetization happens later.

However, if Morpho plans to increase its monetization in the near term, then it would lose the current competitive edge it has against Aave.

Alameda moves $16 million in Solana's SOL token for possible creditor distribution
Bankrupt crypto exchange FTX's sister company Alameda Research "unstaked" roughly $16 million worth of Solana's $SOL token and moved the same to an address linked to creditor repayments, according to data source Arkham.

Unstaking refers to the process of withdrawing crypto assets that were previously locked up in a proof-of-stake (PoS) network to help secure the blockchain and earn rewards.

The latest move follows a familiar pattern: unstake coins and route them to addresses used to reimburse creditors. About a month ago, Alameda did the same, directing funds to the same distribution address. That prior move ultimately raised expectations that the funds were part of an ongoing creditor repayment process tied to the firm’s restructuring.

While there has been no formal confirmation that this specific tranche will be distributed imminently, the repetition of the pattern suggests continuity in the process rather than an isolated movement.

$SOL, the native token of programmable blockchain Solana, has a market capitalization of $47.26 billion, which makes it the seventh-largest digital asset in the world. As of writing, $SOL traded near $82, largely unchanged on a 24-hour basis, but down significantly from its all-time high of $293 hit in January last year.

Alameda, founded by Sam Bankman-Fried in 2017, began as a quantitative trading shop focused on arbitrage opportunities in digital assets, exploiting price differences across exchanges and markets.

At its peak, Alameda was a major liquidity provider across crypto markets and was deeply embedded in the ecosystem, trading billions in volume and operating across spot, derivatives, and structured products.

Bitcoin is trading around $71k as global markets enter a cautious holding pattern. Investors are closely watching whether the recently announced US-Iran ceasefire will hold and how its resolution might affect broader risk sentiment.

Until there is greater geopolitical clarity, crypto markets appear content to consolidate rather than commit to a directional move.

Bitcoin Price Analysis: The Daily Chart

The daily chart continues to show a long-term downtrend. $BTC is trading inside a descending channel and below both the 100-day MA (~$75k) and 200-day MA (~$87k). The $75k–$80k resistance band remains the primary ceiling as it has rejected every recovery attempt since the February crash. Both moving averages are declining as well, which is a sign that the broader trend has not yet turned.

That said, the RSI has been trending higher since the February lows and is now hovering above 50. This indicates that the momentum is still dominated by buyers, but only marginally. The support area at $60k continues to be the most important level buyers need to defend, as a breakdown could push the price toward the $55k area. On the other hand, a push above $75k-$80k on strong volume would be the first meaningful signal that the trend is shifting.

The short-term rising channel that has been forming since the February lows remains the dominant structure on the 4-hour chart, with the asset currently at $71k.
