The platform took to X and stated that the DJ sold $30,000 worth of Shiba Inu (SHIB) and Ethereum (ETH), while moving his funds to Gemini. Arkham notes that Aoki still holds 9 Bored Ape NFTs that were worth $800,000 in 2021. For decades, Japan has maintained strict limits on weapons exports under its pacifist post-World War II framework. Despite this, the country has developed a highly advanced defense manufacturing base supported by an annual defense budget of roughly $60 billion. That industrial capability is now being repositioned toward global markets.
The policy shift is already drawing strong interest from international buyers. Poland and the Philippines are among the most active potential partners. Poland is reportedly looking to Japan for capabilities in counter-drone systems and electronic warfare, while the Philippines may acquire second-hand Japanese frigates amid rising maritime tensions in the South China Sea.
The timing reflects broader global trends. With the United States stretched across multiple geopolitical flashpoints and allies increasingly questioning long-term security commitments, many countries are seeking to diversify their defense suppliers. European diplomats say Japan’s move is being viewed as a strategic opportunity to reduce reliance on U.S. defense supply chains.
Japanese defense firms are already responding. Toshiba is planning to hire hundreds of additional workers and expand production capacity, while Mitsubishi Electric is strengthening its overseas sales presence in key hubs such as London and Singapore.
South Korea’s rapid rise as a global arms exporter provides a clear benchmark for Japan’s ambitions. Given its larger industrial base and technological depth, analysts suggest Japan could emerge as an even more significant player in the global defense export market.
