Bitcoin rises past $76,000, aiming at major breakout as oil plunges on Iran cooldown



The price of bitcoin has again pushed above $76,000 alongside about a 10% plunge in the price of crude oil on an apparent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

"The passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire," said Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in an X posting.

The news sent the price of WTI crude oil down nearly 10% to $85.90 per barrel, about its lowest price since shortly after the outbreak of the war in early March.

Alongside bitcoin has risen to $76,400, up 3 over the past 24 hours. U.S. stock index futures are higher by about 1% across the board.

Why the $76,000 area is important

Bitcoin was trading around the $76,000-$78,000 level in the days before the Feb. 5 crash that sent its price tumbling all the way back to $60,000. In recent days, BTC has risen above $76,000 on numerous occasions, only to be met with a wave of quick selling.

Technicians believe that a sustained break to around $77,000 could set the stage for a return to significantly higher levels.

Bitcoin's recovery hits a Fed ceiling with no sign of cheaper money

Powell may stay chair pro tem if Warsh's confirmation stalls, and that uncertainty is keeping Bitcoin's recovery rally under a macro ceiling. Bitcoin's latest recovery has pushed the flagship digital asset back toward the $75,000 level, tracking a broader return in risk appetite as hopes for de-escalation in the Middle East lifted global equities to fresh records.

However, the move is running into a quieter constraint than geopolitics or crypto-specific sentiment: the bond market still shows a Federal Reserve that remains in no hurry to loosen policy.

That backdrop has become more important as the succession battle at the US central bank enters a more volatile phase.

The Senate Banking Committee has scheduled Kevin Warsh's confirmation hearing for April 21, while Jerome Powell's current term as chair ends on May 15.

Powell's term as a Fed governor runs until Jan. 31, 2028, and he said last month that if his successor is not confirmed by the time his chairmanship expires, he would serve as chair pro tem until that happens.

French Finance Minister Calls for Expanded Use of Euro-Pended Stablecoins! Here Are the Details



French Economy and Finance Minister Roland Lescure stated that the use of euro-pegged stablecoins should be expanded and called on European banks to take a more active role.

According to Reuters, Lescure, speaking at a cryptocurrency conference in Paris, expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of Euro-denominated digital assets.

Minister Lescure pointed out that US dollar-backed stablecoins, in particular, have a much larger market share globally, emphasizing that Europe lags behind in this area. It is believed that the limited scale of Euro stablecoins could weaken the competitiveness of the European financial system in its digital transformation process.

In his speech, Lescure also directly called on banks, saying that financial institutions should further consider products called “deposit tokens,” which convert bank deposits into digital assets.

It is stated that these types of tokens can speed up payment systems and reduce costs by bridging the gap between traditional finance and blockchain technology.

While the European Union has recently taken steps to clarify the regulatory framework for crypto assets and stablecoins, Lescure’s statements are being interpreted as pressure to accelerate this process.

The “Fear & Greed Index” is an indicator created by Alternative that tells us about the average sentiment present among traders in the Bitcoin and wider cryptocurrency markets. The index takes into account for the data of the following five factors to determine the investor mentality: trading volume, market cap dominance, volatility, social media sentiment, and Google Trends.

To represent the market sentiment, the metric makes use of a numerical scale running from zero to hundred. All values on this scale that lie below 47 correspond to a net sentiment of fear, while those above 53 suggest the dominance of greed among investors. Naturally, the values lying between these two cutoffs imply a neutral mentality.

Besides these three main zones, there are also two ‘extreme’ regions called the extreme fear (25 and under) and extreme greed (above 75). Historically, these two have held significance for the market as they have been where major tops and bottoms have tended to form.

The relationship between prices and sentiment has been an inverse one, however, with tops appearing during extreme greed and bottoms alongside extreme fear.

Recently, the crypto sector has been stuck in the latter of the two, as the below chart shows.
