CryptoQuant said bitcoin’s 37% rebound from April lows still looks more like a bear-market rally than a confirmed trend reversal, with realized profits hitting their highest level since December and short-term holders increasingly exiting at a gain.

Bitcoin’s rally has pushed traders back into profit, with holders cashing out at the fastest pace since December, as recent buyers increasingly sell into strength, they wrote.

But the rebound still looks more like a relief rally than a true bull-market breakout, since profits remain well below levels seen in past sustained uptrends while unrealized gains are already high enough to tempt more selling, according to CryptoQuant. Traders are also sitting on an 18% unrealized profit margin, the highest since June 2025, a level where profit-taking has historically accelerated.

Block reported total net revenue of $6.06 billion for the quarter ended March 31, up from $5.77 billion a year earlier. Gross profit reached $2.91 billion, up 27% year over year, according to the company’s shareholder letter. Still, the headline profit picture stayed mixed. Block reported a net loss attributable to common stockholders of $308.7 million, compared with net income of $189.9 million in the same quarter last year. Operating expenses rose to $3.08 billion from $1.96 billion. Coinbase’s stock has fallen more than 14.5% this year, prompting the exchange to pursue new business lines such as prediction markets and cost-cutting measures, including laying off 14% of its workforce, or about 700 employees, on Monday.

Despite the company’s earnings, CEO Brian Armstrong struck an optimistic tone on the earnings call, telling investors that “the world economy is moving on-chain, and Coinbase was built to capitalize on this transition.”

He added that over the past year, Coinbase has aimed to transition from “a primarily spot-focused crypto platform into a place where you can now trade any asset class.”

“We're in kind of this interim period where spot crypto assets were down a bit, other asset classes were up. As we diversify, these things will get balanced out, where we'll just be in a more upward channel over time,” Armstrong added

Singapore-based market maker Enflux offered a different read, focusing less on holder behavior and more on the macro catalyst that drove bitcoin’s initial move higher.
Enflux said bitcoin’s push through the $80,000 level was part of a broader risk-on reaction after President Donald Trump paused a U.S. naval operation tied to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a move that sent oil prices lower and lifted equities.

But while Enflux said the rally "makes sense mechanically," it warned markets may be overestimating the durability of the catalyst, noting that previous Trump diplomatic pauses since March either reversed within days or were misread by traders.

Glassnode, however, offered a more constructive view, arguing bitcoin’s recent move reflects an early structural recovery

Coinbase shares slide on $400M Q1 loss, revenue miss

Coinbase shares slid Thursday after the US crypto exchange reported a steep first-quarter loss while revenue missed Wall Street expectations.

Coinbase reported a net loss of $394.1 million in Q1, its second consecutive quarterly loss after reporting a $667 million loss in Q4 2025. It swung from a $65.6 million profit a year earlier.

"Macro conditions were genuinely tough," Coinbase chief financial officer Alesia Haas told investors on an earnings call. "Total crypto market cap and total crypto trading volume were both down more than 20% quarter-over-quarter."

Coinbase's earnings come as other crypto companies have also struggled to turn a profit in the first months of 2026 as a crypto market slump pushed some traders to other investments.

A separate scaling track is targeting MasterCard- and Visa-scale throughput on a similar horizon.

The roadmap arrived during a $ZEC rally that has lifted the token more than 110% over the past 30 days as prominent crypto fund Multicoin Capital disclosed a sizable $ZEC investment and the privacy narrative caught on among investors, sentiment daata shows.

Swihart's pitch was that Bitcoin no longer holds up as the cypherpunk-grade money it was meant to be. The asset works as an ETF wrapper and a store of value, he said, but as a peer-to-peer private payment system "it's just fundamentally broken."
Visible balances on a transparent ledger let governments seize what they can see, he argued, the same wealth-visibility critique Multicoin's Tushar Jain leaned on this week when disclosing the fund's purchases.

The user-side traction is running through the Electric Coin Company's mobile wallet after an October integration with Near Intents opened cross-chain swaps from assets like BTC, SOL and $USDC directly into shielded $ZEC.

Near Intents lets a user state what they want, like turning $USDC into $ZEC, while specialized routers handle the multi-step trade across different blockchains in the background.

Roughly $600 million to $700 million has flowed through that route since launch, mostly to and from USD and $USDC, Swihart said. Near's broader intent-based system has processed close to $800 million in volume over the past 30 days alone, per Near Protocol data,
