Thanks to the ongoing market uncertainty, the popular Solana-based memecoin launchpad Pump.Fun (PUMP) might be poised for a potential downside move. This, after the token surged by 30% over the past two weeks.

However, the altcoin’s next direction remains uncertain. Especially since at the time of writing, its price was sitting at the key make-or-break level of $0.00198.

PUMP fell by over 8.05% in the last 24 hours. Despite this recent bout of depreciation though, the crypto’s trading volume during this period surged by 13% to $124.03 million. This may be a sign of heightened market participation.

In fact, this might also mean that traders and investors are showing interest in the prevailing bearish trend.

Sky TVL Surges 38% in March

Sky, the successor to MakerDAO, is off to a strong start this month, with its total value locked (TVL) climbing to $7.52 billion, a 38% increase since March 1, according to DefiLlama.

This makes Sky the fourth-largest decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol by TVL, trailing Aave, Lido, and EigenCloud. The sUSDS savings pool alone accounts for approximately $6.5 billion in deposits and has attracted nearly $1.3 billion since the start of the month.

As DeFi yields have dried up in the wake of the market downturn, Sky’s fixed 3.75% savings rate is higher than stablecoin supply rates on major protocols like Aave and Morpho. For example, supplying USDT or USDC on Aave’s Ethereum markets currently yields less than 2%.

“Yield is definitely the main factor, but it's also one of the lowest risk, liquid yield sources in DeFi,” Sam MacPherson, CEO of Phoenix Labs, told The Defiant.

Sky founder Rune Christensen also emphasized that users are prioritizing safety amid the market turbulence.

“Honestly, it's the classic story of how Sky, just like Maker used to, always does better in bear markets because it's just focused on a solid product that can be trusted to be stable and deliver good returns,” Christensen told The Defiant.

The $SKY token has rallied alongside the surge in TVL. The token is up approximately 4% over the past seven days and 12% over the past month, according to CoinGecko.

The US CLARITY Act, aimed at bringing greater regulatory clarity to the crypto industry, may have little chance of passing this year if it doesn’t move forward within the next seven weeks, according to a crypto executive.

“If CLARITY doesn't pass committee by the end of April, odds of passage in 2026 become extremely low,” Galaxy Digital head of firmwide research Alex Thorn said in an X post on Saturday.

“This needs to hit the Senate floor by early May... floor time is running out, and odds diminish every day that passes,” Thorn said. It comes after US Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he doesn’t expect the chamber to act on the digital asset market structure legislation before April, as it will prioritize the SAVE America Act, which would require voters to provide proof of US citizenship in person to register.

Stablecoin rewards debate may not be the last hurdle

Thorn said the main perceived holdup for the CLARITY Act is the debate over whether stablecoin rewards will disrupt the traditional banking system — which has split the banking and crypto industry — but warned that more issues could surface after that debate is settled.

“It's very possible that rewards are not the 'final' hurdle but instead just the current hill the bill is dying on,” Thorn said, pointing to potential issues around DeFi, developer protections, and regulatory authority.


US Senator Angela Alsobrooks, a key Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, recently said that crypto and banking lobbies will both have to accept compromises. “All of us will probably walk away just a little bit unhappy,” she said on Tuesday.

What’s delaying the breakout?

Perhaps another factor that has kept BTC within the current range for a while is the lack of strong bidding. According to crypto research firm Swissblock, the February dip below $60K was marked by strong interest, as many players jumped to buy discounted BTC. 

The spike in network growth signaled a surge in market participants, which helped stabilize Bitcoin’s price above $60K last month.

However, Swissblock stressed that a decisive breakout from the current range would need another spike in the network growth or an increase in buyers at this level. 

A renewed rise in network growth would signal that participants are entering the market again. Otherwise, Bitcoin remains in a recovery attempt, not a confirmed expansion phase.

That said, BTC’s resilience this week was also driven by ETF flows. The Spot BTC ETFs were green throughout the week, attracting $767 million in net inflows. If the positive trend continues next week, bulls may attempt to crack the $75k level again.
