Bitmine buys 101,627 ether worth over $230 million, its largest weekly haul of 2026


BitMine Immersion Technologies (BMNR), the largest Ethereum-focused digital asset treasury firm, sped up its crypto purchase pace as chairman Tom Lee sees growing signs of the crypto "mini-winter" ending.

The firm reported Monday it acquired 101,627 ether ($ETH) last week, its largest weekly haul since December 15. The purchase, worth roughly over $230 million at current $ETH prices, lifted BitMine’s total holdings to 4.97 million $ETH.

The move comes as most digital asset treasuries — except Michael Saylor's bitcoin-focused Strategy (MSTR) — have slowed or halted buying in recent months. BitMine remains among the last large-scale buyers of ether-focused treasuries, continuing to provide a steady source of demand for $ETH.

BitMine’s total crypto and cash holdings stand at $12.9 billion. In addition to its $ETH treasury, the firm holds 199 bitcoin, $1.12 billion in cash and equity stakes including investments in Beast Industries and Eightco Holdings.

Chairman Thomas Lee said the firm sees signs that the recent downturn is nearing an end, pointing to $ETH’s rebound and broader market dynamics.

"Bitmine has maintained the increased pace of $ETH buys in each of the past four weeks, as our base case $ETH is in the final stages of the 'mini-crypto winter,'" Lee said.

He added that ether has risen sharply from its early February lows and has outperformed equities since the start of the Iran conflict, supported by demand tied to tokenization and AI-related use cases.

BitMine has also continued expanding its staking operations. The firm has staked more than 3.3 million $ETH, or about two-third of its holdings, generating roughly $221 million in annualized revenue.

Crypto analyst Behdark has debunked the bullish predictions, forecasting that the cryptocurrency’s price is actually headed lower before recovering.

How Low Will The Bitcoin Price Go?
Despite the increase in price, the crypto analyst has predicted that it is likely that the Bitcoin price crashes first from here. The bullish sentiment in the market, Behdark believes could be misleading for investors, as this could be a deliberate ploy by market makers to actually get the most people involved before crashing the price again.

As the analyst explains, the underlying Bitcoin structure is still very bearish, especially given the fact that the digital asset looks to be forming a triangle or diamagnetic pattern. The latter is a complex corrective pattern, meaning that it can often be clouded in recoveries before crashing down further again.

In either case, both of these patterns point to a high possibility that the Bitcoin price would go down first before up. Thus, it is likely that there would be opportunities to buy the cryptocurrency lower before eventually waiting for the run-up.

With this, the crypto analyst has identified the major levels that investors should watch out for that could be the best time to actually short the cryptocurrency. Mainly, two levels are of the most interest as these are where the bears could make their stand in terms of establishing resistance.

Japan Launches PoC for Blockchain‑Based Collateral Management Using JGBs

Japan launched a pilot project to manage sovereign bonds as digital collateral using blockchain on the Canton Network.

Mizuho, Nomura, JSCC and Digital Asset Holdings participate in the PoC, selected by Japan’s FSA in February 2026.

The trial seeks to enable real-time collateral transactions around the clock, including cross-border operations with international actors.

Japan announced the launch of a proof-of-concept (PoC) project aimed at managing Japanese government bonds —known as JGBs— as digital collateral on a blockchain network.

The initiative was jointly announced by Mizuho Financial Group, Nomura Holdings, Japan Securities Clearing Corporation (JSCC) and Digital Asset Holdings (DA), and was selected by Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA) in February 2026 as part of the Payment Innovation Project (PIP).

The chosen infrastructure is Canton Network, a blockchain designed specifically for institutional finance and developed with DA’s support. The PoC will seek to verify, from a legal and operational perspective, whether the transfer of rights and the updating of records within a hierarchical structure involving multiple account management institutions can be executed seamlessly through blockchain technology, all within the framework established by Japan’s Act on Book-Entry Transfer of Corporate Bonds and Shares.
