Notably, a crypto analyst has warned investors about the potential downside to holding Dogecoin in this current risk-off market. He notes that the broader financial markets are also under serious pressure amid persistent geopolitical tensions and rising energy costs.

Why Dogecoin Is A "Weak" Altcoin Now Crypto market expert @ColinTCrypto has taken to X to share his bearish forecast for the DOGE price and why he believes the meme coin can still crash. In his post, the analyst described Dogecoin as a weak altcoin and warned that investors should not hold it right now.

The analyst shared a chart showing Dogecoin trading at around $0.09. The chart traces the meme coin's price movement from its 2021 peak to the present. After its explosive surge during the last bull market, DOGE mostly traded sideways, with occasional short-lived rallies, while the overall trend remained volatile and in a gradual decline.

@ColinTCrypto has noted that this downward trend has culminated in the formation of the white triangle on the chart. He stated that Dogecoin has already fallen to its first critical support zone around $0.09. The analyst noted that the meme coin is showing strong signs of breaking down further, potentially hitting new lows.

Circle targets wrapped Bitcoin market with new cirBTC product

Circle has unveiled cirBTC, a wrapped Bitcoin product aimed at institutional users, marking a broader push beyond its core stablecoin business and deeper into tokenized market infrastructure.

Circle said cirBTC will be backed 1:1 by $BTC, with reserves that are readily and independently verifiable onchain, and that the asset is being built to work across supported blockchains and the wider DeFi ecosystem.

The company is pitching cirBTC as a more secure and neutral wrapped Bitcoin option for firms that want Bitcoin exposure inside onchain markets without relying on less transparent structures.

Circle said the product is designed for OTC desks, market makers, lending protocols, and other institutions that need tokenized $BTC for trading, collateral, and settlement use cases. It also said cirBTC will launch first on Ethereum and Arc, Circle’s own blockchain project, and will integrate with USDC and Circle Mint as part of a broader Circle native stack.

The launch fits with Circle’s stated product direction for 2026, which centers on building what it calls the internet financial system through stablecoins, payments rails, blockchain infrastructure, and developer tooling. cirBTC extends that strategy into wrapped Bitcoin, giving Circle another asset it can plug into its existing payments, liquidity, and tokenization infrastructure.

The timing also puts Circle into a market that already has large incumbents. Wrapped Bitcoin, or WBTC, currently carries a market cap of roughly $8 billion, while Coinbase’s cbBTC stands near $6 billion, showing that tokenized Bitcoin liquidity onchain is already a sizable market.

Matthew Sigel, Head of Digital Asset Research at VanEck, a leading figure in the digital asset world, made important statements about the future of Bitcoin (BTC), AI mining, and Wall Street’s crypto strategies.

Appearing on Anthony Pompliano’s show, Matthew Sigel summarized the current market situation by stating that “respect for the four-year cycle” is necessary. According to Sigel, Bitcoin and the cryptocurrency market in general have gone beyond being mere financial assets and are intertwined with the energy and artificial intelligence sectors.

Sigel attributed his reason for not being “maximum bullish” (extremely optimistic) about Bitcoin to the four-year cycle. He stated that they added to their holdings when Bitcoin was around $60,000, but waited for more opportune cyclical levels before making further purchases.

One of the most critical points is that the selling by early-stage whales—old investors who haven’t been active for 3-5 years—has slowed down in the fourth and first quarters. This is considered a significant signal that selling pressure in the market is decreasing.

A VanEck expert argued that Bitcoin miners are no longer just crypto producers, but have become data center providers at the heart of the artificial intelligence (AI) revolution.

According to Sigel, 2026 and beyond will be the year of “Enterprise Chains.” He notes that giants like Circle and Stripe are attempting to control payment traffic by establishing their own internal blockchain structures, and that eight crypto companies obtaining banking licenses will accelerate this process. These licenses will allow companies access to FED master accounts and facilitate much faster fiat-to-crypto transactions.

Bitcoin Emerges As Hedge Amid Unstoppable Debt Crisis

During the podcast, James Lavish highlighted the growing global unease, noting that the World Uncertainty Index has reached a historic high above 105,000. This means it is now higher than levels seen during COVID, 9/11, the Iraq war, and the global financial crisis combined.

Lavish explained that the US Treasury is facing a major financial burden this year, with about $9.7 trillion in debt set to mature. When combined with ongoing budget deficits of roughly $2 trillion, the total amount that needs refinancing rises to a staggering $12 trillion. He pointed out how sensitive this debt is to interest rates, noting that even a half-point increase would add about $100 billion to annual interest payments on the debt.

Google’s Quantum AI team recently issued an interesting warning to the cryptocurrency industry, noting how the mathematical foundation securing Bitcoin and most other digital assets may be far more vulnerable to quantum computers than previously believed.

In a recent research blog post, Google said the quantum resources needed to attack the elliptic curve cryptography used across cryptocurrencies may be far lower than older estimates suggested, and it may be time for blockchain projects, especially Bitcoin, to take action against this impending risk.

Google’s Warning Puts Bitcoin’s Cryptography At Risk
Google’s warning is based on elliptic curve cryptography, which is the system that facilitates ownership and transaction signing across Bitcoin and many other digital assets. Every Bitcoin transaction relies on a cryptographic system called the 256-bit elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem, or ECDLP-256. It is the mathematical lock that protects wallet ownership and transaction integrity across the Bitcoin network.

The consensus view held that breaking Bitcoin’s cryptographic system would require a quantum machine of extraordinary scale on the order of millions of qubits. However, researchers at Google have demonstrated that the computational threshold for a successful attack on a cryptographic system like Bitcoin’s is far lower than the industry had priced in.

Researchers at Google compiled two optimized quantum circuits that implement Shor’s algorithm against ECDLP-256. Based on the coverage of the blog post by Google’s research team, the company’s updated estimate pointed to roughly 1,200 to 1,450 logical qubits and fewer than 500,000 physical qubits for a relevant attack, with execution measured in minutes on a sufficiently advanced machine. This is an approximately 20-fold reduction in the number of physical qubits required to solve ECDLP-256.
