NiSource, a U.S. utility company, has secured a long-term energy supply agreement with an Alphabet subsidiary to power a major data center in northern Indiana. The announcement also included an expanded partnership with Amazon, aimed at accelerating power delivery to its facilities while moving up bill credits for residential customers.The deals reflect a broader trend among Big Tech companies racing to secure reliable, clean energy sources as artificial intelligence continues to drive explosive growth in data center demand. To meet this need, NiSource is leveraging its GenCo model — a dedicated supply structure that serves large commercial customers through owned generation assets and market resources, without passing additional costs to existing utility customers.Under the GenCo framework, approximately 340 megawatts will come from a GenCo-owned generation portfolio, with up to 175 megawatts of seasonal market purchases supplementing supply as needed. NIPSCO, NiSource's Indiana utility, will also provide the necessary transmission infrastructure to support these large-scale operations. Power delivery for Alphabet is expected to begin in summer 2026.One of the most notable aspects of the GenCo model is its consumer benefit structure. Existing ratepayers are projected to see an estimated $1.25 billion in total system-wide savings, translating to roughly $90 to $115 annually per household. NiSource CEO Lloyd Yates noted that the latest Amazon agreement builds on a previously announced $1 billion in customer savings, reinforcing the company's commitment to balancing growth with affordability.The announcements come as energy and policy debates around data centers intensify nationwide. America’s top brokerage firm, Charles Schwab, has officially rolled out trading for Bitcoin ($BTC) and Ethereum ($ETH) on the Schwab Crypto platform through the Charles Schwab Premier Bank.

The phased launch will begin with an internal employee pilot, followed by a client waitlist pilot, followed by deeper expansion throughout Q2, 2026, and beyond. New York and Louisiana are currently exempt from the service.

Charles Schwab brokerage unveils $BTC and $ETH trading

Today’s announcement is a follow-up to the one that happened earlier this month. Charles Schwab now plans to integrate more cryptocurrencies and AI tools to cater to industry demand, while diversifying its revenue sources.

At present, the Texas-headquartered firm boasts about $1.48 trillion in assets under management (AUM), and up to 46 million active brokerage accounts managed by 16,000 advisors.

Aside from its flagship crypto product, Charles Schwab released its Q1 2026 earnings report today. Its net revenue grew 16% year-over-year to a record $6.48 billion, slightly missing the $6.50 billion expectation. This caused a 7.73% drop in its stock (NYSE: SCHW) on the day, with the stock trading at $92.53 at the time of writing.

Anthropic shipped Claude Opus 4.7 today, calling it the company’s most capable Opus model yet. We tested it, and the marketing lines up with the results.

"Our latest model, Claude Opus 4.7, is now generally available." the company said in its official announcement. "Users report being able to hand off their hardest coding work—the kind that previously needed close supervision—to Opus 4.7 with confidence."

The model arrives on the heels of weeks of user complaints about Opus 4.6 allegedly losing its edge. Developers across GitHub, Reddit, and X documented what they called "AI shrinkflation"—the feeling that the model they'd been paying for had quietly gotten worse. As we reported yesterday, Anthropic was already preparing 4.7 while sitting on something far more powerful that it can't release publicly: Claude Mythos.

When the announcement dropped this morning, X users who had been loudest about 4.6's degradation were quick to reply with sarcasm: Opus 4.7, some joked, felt like "early Opus 4.6"—the version people actually liked, before they believed Anthropic quietly turned the dials down. Anthropic, of course, has denied ever degrading model weights to manage compute demand.
