Trader who made $49 million shorting crypto lost $24 million on ether in 12 seconds
The Hyperliquid wallet known as pension-usdt.eth was forced out of a 50,000 ETH short as ether surged, with five liquidation orders helping push the price higher during the unwind.
The wallet known as “pension-usdt.eth” had been short ether for two months. On Thursday morning it was closed out after a surge across all major tokens, and lost nearly $24 million on the trade.

The address had been one of the more successful short sellers of the year, with roughly $49 million in profits from betting against crypto. Its recent record was a run of wins — nearly $6 million on a 60,000 ETH short closed in June, $3.6 million on a 1,400 BTC short in the same month, $1.7 million on another bitcoin short in March.

This single trade cost half of everything the wallet had made. Hyperliquid's records show the liquidation ran from 04:51:03 to 04:51:15, in five separate forced sales. First 9,989 ETH at $2,193, then 20,698 at $2,209, then 15,830 at $2,214, then 1,871 at $2,236.
By the end there were no buyers left for the last 1,417 ETH, so Hyperliquid absorbed it into a fund it keeps for exactly that purpose.

Ether rose $43 over those 12 seconds. The trader's own forced buying was part of what moved it, and every dollar it climbed made the remaining chunks more expensive to close.
The position was held for 1,445 hours, or a little over two months, through a stretch when bitcoin traded in a range below $65,000 and betting against it looked like the easy side. Wednesday's Treasury buyback announcement ended that, with ether surging up 18% in the past 24 horus and bitcoin zooming from $64,000 to nearly $70,000.

This week, $XRP broke its summer lull and jumped nearly 20%, rising toward $1.2124. The current momentum, fueled by a wave of Washington "hopium," has brought the token close to the main price divide on the weekly chart — the 1.21–1.23 range as per TradingView.

However, technical indicators are sending a clear signal that the asset is approaching a zone of heavy profit-taking. $XRP has not risen above this threshold since the catastrophic crash of Oct. 10, 2025, when $19 billion in forced liquidations of leveraged positions locked the crypto market into a year-long bearish trend.

Since June, the $XRP chart had been sliding toward the psychologically important $1 level while the daily RSI formed a hidden bullish divergence — a sign of seller exhaustion. A strong wave of news from the U.S. became the key fundamental trigger for the breakout:

The Treasury launched yield curve control (YCC), which traditionally weakens the dollar.

The SEC released its long-awaited crypto asset regulation framework, Regulation Crypto Assets.

The presidential administration held a closed-door meeting with top industry executives, including Ripple's leadership, to discuss real-world asset (RWA) tokenization and the Clarity Act.

Official statements from the White House added a powerful dose of optimism to the market. Amid a cascade of short liquidations, $XRP's daily candle immediately broke above the 23-day SMA at $1.04 and the 50-day SMA at $1.07 before surging beyond the upper Bollinger Band at $1.13.

Mantle Price Gains as Real-Time Data Dashboard Goes Live

Mantle price action is finally showing some response to the network’s growing numbers. A new real-time data dashboard on Blockworks now tracks Mantle’s financials, tokenized assets and DeFi activity, while the network’s total value secured has climbed to $1.42 billion from $330 million in 2023.

Mantle Price Reacts as Network Metrics Expand
The dashboard puts some fairly substantial figures in one place. Mantle has surpassed 256 million cumulative transactions, while tokenized assets have crossed 840 and their value has reached $290 million.

Stablecoin circulating supply has also climbed beyond $543 million. Those figures don’t automatically make the token bullish, but they do show that the network has considerably more activity than its $330 million total value secured level in 2023 suggested. And this time, the market actually noticed.

Mantle Price Flips Key EMA During Rally
Mantle price has reacted positively following the dashboard information going live, extending the rally that began in early August. The token is trading around $0.4522 after flipping its 50-day EMA band.

That’s an encouraging technical change, although the next test is considerably tougher. The 200-day EMA sits around $0.60 and represents the first major resistance identified in the current setup.

If buyers manage to clear that level, $0.84 becomes the next resistance area. Suddenly, the chart starts looking considerably more interesting.

Losing Momentum Could Send Mantle Lower
Still, crypto markets have a habit of ignoring fundamentals until they don’t. If the current recovery loses momentum and Mantle price falls back below the recent structure, $0.38 becomes the key downside area, with an even deeper decline possible if that level fails.
