It was less than a week ago, on Friday, when the bears appeared to be in control of the market, pushing the largest digital asset to $62,500. Although it rebounded in the following days, it remained sideways at $63,000 with little to no indication of an upcoming breakout.

The first signs emerged on Monday and Tuesday as the cryptocurrency gradually increased to $64,000 and even briefly tapped $65,000. It was stopped there and slipped to $64,400 yesterday before all hell broke loose. What took place in the following few hours was almost thought to be impossible in the crypto markets.

Bitcoin initiated a massive leg up that drove it higher by over $6,000 in hours. It smashed through several key resistance zones and finally touched $70,000 for the first time since mid-June. Although it was stopped there at first and slipped to $68,000, the bulls were more persistent and drove it higher to well over $70,000 as of press time again, while the community comments on the possible reasons behind this surge.

Its market capitalization has exploded by over $100 billion in a day to $1.410 trillion on CG. Its dominance over the alts stands tall at 57%.

Cash Cat [$CASHCAT] declined 15% over the past day as selling pressure overwhelmed market demand.

The decline followed the direction AMBCrypto reported earlier, when $CASHCAT found support at the Lower Bollinger Band.

The report noted that a relief rally remained possible. However, unchanged market conditions could prevent a sustained recovery.

At present, the Perpetual Market continued recording heavy Capital Outflows.

Long liquidations were 397 times higher than short liquidations, compared with the previously reported 490-fold gap. The gap narrowed but remained heavily skewed against bullish positions.

The question is whether a repeatedly tested Demand Zone can outweigh continued derivatives weakness.

Can $CASHCAT’s demand zone hold?
Chart analysis showed $CASHCAT trading inside a critical Demand Zone between $0.093 and $0.087. This range triggered a rally on four previous occasions.

Another bullish reaction would require $CASHCAT to reclaim the upper boundary at $0.093.

If demand remains insufficient, the price could continue ranging inside the zone or break below $0.087. Continued seller dominance could then expose $CASHCAT to further losses.

Do $CASHCAT indicators signal more losses?
The Aroon Indicator and Parabolic SAR showed that $CASHCAT remained in a bearish phase.

Aroon Down stood at 85%, above the Aroon Up reading of 35%. These readings favored sellers, although the gap remained below an extreme 100-to-0 split.

The cryptocurrency derivatives market experienced a sharp spike in volatility over the past hour, with approximately $379 million worth of futures positions liquidated across major exchanges. Data aggregated from trading platforms shows that the broader 24-hour liquidation figure has reached $2.365 billion, underscoring the intense price swings currently gripping digital assets.

What Happened and Why It Matters

Liquidations occur when a trader’s leveraged position is forcibly closed by an exchange due to insufficient margin. In the past hour, the bulk of the liquidated positions were long positions, meaning traders who bet on rising prices were caught off guard by a sudden downward move. According to data from Coinglass, Bitcoin and Ethereum accounted for the largest share of the liquidations, with Bitcoin alone seeing over $120 million in positions wiped out.

The spike in liquidations comes amid a period of heightened uncertainty in the crypto market. Over the past week, Bitcoin has traded in a wide range, oscillating between $60,000 and $70,000, while Ethereum has similarly experienced double-digit percentage swings. This volatility has been driven by a combination of macroeconomic factors, including changing expectations around U.S. interest rates, and crypto-specific events such as large outflows from spot Bitcoin ETFs.

For traders, the surge in liquidations serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with high leverage. Many exchanges offer leverage of up to 100x, which can amplify gains but also lead to rapid, cascading losses. The recent liquidation event is one of the largest in the past month, though it remains below the record levels seen during the March 2024 crash, when over $1 billion was liquidated in a single day.

Hyperliquid’s $HYPE token has gained 19.6% over the past 24 hours to trade near $70.44 on Aug. 20, after briefly pushing above $72 during a sharp rally triggered by fresh signs of a possible regulated US entry.

CoinGecko data showed $HYPE had risen from a close to $58 over the previous 24 hours, with most of the gains arriving in two moves.

The token first climbed through $62 before jumping towards $70, while its seven-day gain stood at 23.2%.

The latest move followed comments from US President Donald Trump at the White House on Aug. 19, when he said Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chair Michael Selig was working to bring Hyperliquid into the US in a “fully compliant and legal fashion.”

$HYPE moved above $70 following the remarks, adding to gains that had already started earlier in the session.

Trump’s comments also added new detail to reports from the previous week that Hyperliquid was exploring a regulated route into the US market.

Regulatory records show discussions between the project and US agencies had already taken place before the president’s remarks.

CFTC Innovation Task Force records show Hyperliquid Labs and Hyperliquid Strategic met the regulator on July 15.

The meeting followed talks with the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Crypto Task Force a day earlier.

According to an SEC memorandum covering the July 14 meeting, Hyperliquid representatives discussed the protocol and a “clear, regulated pathway” that could allow Americans to access onchain markets deployed on Hyperliquid.

He also praised Trump’s focus on digital-asset innovation, saying the administration’s commitment could create a brighter future for the industry.

For $XRP, the broader thing is that Ripple has been pushing for clearer U.S. rules for years. Greater regulatory certainty could make it easier for crypto companies and financial institutions to build and operate in the country.

Trump called on Congress to pass a fair version of the legislation, arguing that it could open the door to the next wave of innovation.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong called the September 15 CLARITY Act vote the most important next step. He said the administration, SEC and CFTC are aligned and that the crypto industry is ready to move the legislation forward.

The bill is still not law, so its progress through the Senate remains an important factor for the market.

Strategy [MSTR] shares jumped more than 12% on Wednesday as Bitcoin’s sudden recovery spilled into crypto-linked stocks.

The price of the stock was around $103.76 after it briefly got to the $106.90 level, as Bitcoin gained a more modest 5.59%.

For Strategy shareholders, though, the strong session comes after months of pain due to the price fall. The stock traded near $190 in May and recently fell towards $90, and Michael Saylor is still telling investors not to expect an easy ride from here.

MSTR started Wednesday at $94.54. By the end of trading, it had gained 12.15%, with 33.85 million shares changing hands.

The Bitcoin price rise provided the backdrop for the stock price move, with $BTC moving from below $65,000 to nearly $70,000 before dropping to around $68,297.

That price move tends to matter more for Strategy than for other companies because of its relationship with $BTC.
