XRP price jumps 15% with $9 billion inflow in a dayXRP’s price surged alongside the broader cryptocurrency market on August 20, recovering more than $9 billion of its market capitalization in 24 hours as macroeconomic tailwinds, short liquidations, and renewed presidential support for digital assets drove risk appetite higher.

In particular, $XRP’s market cap rose from roughly $63.08 billion at 11 a.m. (UTC), August 19, to $72.27 billion at 11 a.m. (UTC), August 20, a 14.5% change of nearly $9.2 billion.

At the same time, $XRP’s price itself shot up from $0.99 to $1.15 at the time of writing, a psychologically important level not seen since July 21, per CoinMarketCap data.

Why is $XRP rallying today?

The $XRP price rally comes as the crypto sector receives another potential catalyst from Washington, as President Donald Trump has called for Congress to pass the CLARITY Act.

Speaking at a White House event attended by some of the sector’s biggest executives, Trump urged lawmakers to move forward with the legislation, which is shaping up to be one of the most important milestones for the industry.

“Now we need ​Congress to take the next step by passing the CLARITY Act, fair version of the CLARITY Act,” Trump said on August 19.

Bitcoin ETFs draw $517M in largest one-day inflow since early May
US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded $517.2 million in net inflows on Wednesday, their largest single-day investment since May 4, pushing August net inflows to $1.47 billion.

The funds have taken in about $1 billion since Monday, already their strongest weekly net inflow since the week ended Jan. 16, when they attracted about $1.42 billion.

The inflows came as crypto prices rallied on Wednesday, alongside a US Treasury decision to expand buybacks of longer-dated government debt and renewed attention on crypto regulation after President Donald Trump urged Congress to advance the CLARITY Act at a White House event.

“The Treasury signalling it’ll step in at the long end pushed yields and the dollar lower, and gold and silver outperformed equities on the day, so the market priced this as a currency event rather than a growth one,” Jonatan Randin, senior market analyst at PrimeXBT, told Cointelegraph.

“Bitcoin moved with gold and silver rather than with risk appetite, which is what the debasement trade looks like when it’s working,” he said.

Bitcoin traded near $72,000 at the time of writing on Thursday, up 11% in the last 24 hours, according to CoinGecko. Ether rose 19% to $2,286.

Spot Ether ETFs logged $189.2 million in net inflows on Wednesday, bringing this week’s inflows to about $291.5 million.

With the recent rally, XRP’s market capitalization has surged to $72.77 billion, its highest level since July 4. XRP has also gained 15.46% over the past 24 hours, making it the third-biggest gainer among the top 10 crypto assets by market value.




The latest rally has pushed XRP into fifth place among the top 10 crypto assets, putting it ahead of USDC. However, CoinMarketCap had not updated its rankings at press time.

Many traders had placed bets on prices falling, but once Bitcoin started seeing a price increase instead, exchanges automatically closed positions that could no longer cover their losses.

Bitcoin traders suffered the biggest hit, as data showed that around $893 million in BTC positions were liquidated over 24 hours, including $861 million from shorts.

More than $531 million in Bitcoin shorts disappeared in just one hour.
