SEC Crypto Innovation Exemption Could Arrive in Early October, Securitize President Says

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) may roll out a long-anticipated crypto innovation exemption as soon as early October, according to Brett Redfearn, president of digital asset firm Securitize. Redfearn told The Block that the SEC had delayed announcing the exemption while it weighed a vote on the CLARITY Act, a legislative effort aimed at clarifying the regulatory status of digital assets.

BitGo Holdings BTGO$6.5800·At close, a crypto custody company, said it became the first global cryptocurrency firm to secure a virtual asset services provider license in South Korea, giving it access to institutions in one of the world's most active crypto populations.

The company, which went public on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) earlier this year at a $2 billion valuation, established a local entity, BitGo Korea, to add to existing regulated units in the U.S., Singapore, Germany, and Dubai. The Korea Financial Intelligence Unit (KoFIU) approval covers virtual asset custody and transfer services for institutional and enterprise clients, BitGo said Wednesday.

X Suspends Major Crypto Accounts Over Alleged $250K Content Scheme

An Alleged $250,000 Content Farm Gets X’s Attention

The hammer dropped around Aug. 18 after reports involving @Vivek4real_, an account operated under the name Vivek Sen, reached Nikita Bier, who has played a central role in X’s war against spam and low-quality content. The account had roughly 270,000 followers at the time.

Bier said one person appeared to be running +10 accounts and had drained X’s revenue-sharing program of more than $250,000 over the previous two years. He also said the case was being forwarded to law enforcement.

Stolen Posts Accusations
The alleged playbook was simple. Videos and posts produced by journalists, Youtube creators, and other X users were reportedly downloaded and uploaded again through larger accounts, sometimes after watermarks or other identifying material had been deliberately cropped away.

That detail matters because X pays eligible creators partly from engagement generated by their posts. The company changed its system in 2026 to steer more revenue toward original authors, creating an obvious financial incentive for accounts to make recycled material appear like their own.

By spreading recycled material across multiple accounts, an operator could potentially harvest millions of impressions without carrying the cost of producing original reporting, interviews, or videos. The tactic also lets large accounts compete directly against the people who actually created the material.

Journalists Torch the ‘Net Positive’ Defense

Crypto-related equities rallied alongside bitcoin. Strategy (MSTR), the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, is 10% higher in pre-market after gaining 13% on Wednesday. Crypto exchange group and CoinDesk parent company Bullish (BLSH) has risen 5%, following a gain of more than 9% on Wednesday. Bitcoin miner MARA Holdings (MARA) and crypto exchange Coinbase (COIN) are also rallying in pre-market following strong gains on Wednesday.

Bitcoin has also reclaimed several important technical and onchain levels during its move above $71,000, according to checkonchain data. These include the short-term holder cost basis at $67,138, which represents the average acquisition price of coins held for less than 155 days. Trading above this level typically indicates that recent buyers over the past 155 days are collectively in profit, supporting a more bullish, risk-on market environment.

$BTC has also moved above its 200-day simple moving average (SMA), currently at $68,969. The 200-day SMA tracks bitcoin’s average closing price over the previous 200 days and is widely used to assess its longer-term trend.

The next key level is the True Market Mean at $75,689, which filters out lost coins and long dormant supply to gauge the active investor cost basis. A sustained move above this level would place the average active investor in unrealized profit and could signal a broader shift toward a more bullish market.
